Philadelphia Alumni Show Strong this Week


NBA Player of the Week

Kyrie Irving/Cleveland Cavaliers: Irving is leading all NBA rookies, averaging 17.4 points per game a quarter of the way through the season including a season/career high 45 points against the Charlotte Bobcats.

College Alum of the Week

MAALIK WAYNS, Villanova:  Wayns was named BIG EAST Player of the Week after he averaged 26.5 points — the most by a BIG EAST player last week

Hoop Group College Honor Roll

Tyreek Duren/Lassalle: The sophomore PG averaged 19.5 points, 5.5 rebounds and 3.5 assists in a 1-1 week for La Salle in last week’s two games.

Ian Miller/Florida State: Miller averaged 12.5 points in a 2-0 week with wins over Maryland and #5 ranked Duke.

CJ McCollum/Lehigh: led all scorers with 26 points, making 7-of-14 shots and hitting 10-of-12 free throws in a win over league rival Lafayette.

Kevin Jones/West Virginia: Averaged 25.5 points and 10.0 rebounds while shooting 70.4 percent from the field in a 2-0 week.

Trey Burke/ Michigan: Recorded 16.5 points, 5.5 rebounds and 4.5 assists per game in a 1-1 week.

Jason Clark, Georgetown:Averaged 21.0 points, 5.0 rebounds and 3.0 steals in a 2-0 week. Scored 31 points with five boards and four steals in an 85-73 win against DePaul.

Ryan Pearson/George Mason: Pearson led GMU with 20 points and 12 rebounds in a win over conference foe UNC Wilmington. GMU leads the CAA with an 8-1 conference record.

Darius Johnson-Odom/Marquette: Johnson-Odom led the Golden Eagles to a 2-0 week by averaging 18.5 points in impressive wins over Providence and Louisville.

JAYVAUGHN PINKSTON, Villanova:Pinkston was tabbed as BIG EAST Rookie of the Week after he had a pair of double-doubles — the first  two of his career — in Villanova’s 2-0 week in which he averaged 18.0 points and 11.5 rebounds. BIG EAST Player of the Week

Hoop Group High School Alum of the Week

Rysheed Jordan-Vaux High School

Rysheed Jordan/Vaux(PA): Jordan a top 100 nationally rated guard averaged 20 points over his last 3 games including 31 in a win over the Haverford School.

Mike Zangari/Red Land (PA): The East Carolina bound forward scored a career high and school record 42 in a win over Lower Dauphin. Zangari also led Red Land with 12 rebounds in the contest.

Miles Overton & Steve Vasturia/St. Joes Prep(PA): The deadly backcourt at St. Joes Prep in Philly torched league rival Lasalle by combining for 61 points, as Vasturia scored 31 followed by Overton’s 30.

Daquan Cook/St. Francis(MD): Cook led St. Francis with 25 points in a 56-48 win over Baltimore power Mt. St. Josephs.

Arick Sodini/St. John Vianney(NJ): The senior led SJV with 31 points and 12 rebounds in a league win over Manalapan.

Kris Jenkins/Gonzaga(DC): Jenkins led No. 9 ranked Gonzaga in a big win over No. 3 ranked Dematha in a DC classic. Jenkins hit 6 three pointers on his way to a game high 27 points.

Chris Jenkins & Bryan Bartner/Morristown Beard(NJ): Jenkins and Bartner each scored 19 to lead MB to a victory over Hopatcong. With the win, MB remains undefeated.

Josh Hart/Sidwell Friends(DC): The highly rated Junior led Sidwell Friends with 24 points and 21 rebounds in a league win over the Potomac School. Hart has recorded a team high 52 dunks this year!

Hoop Group Girls Alum of the Week

Sierra Calhoun/Christ the King(NY): Calhoun, a sophomore led CTK with 19 points and 16 rebounds in a CHSAA Brooklyn/Queens Divisional game against Mary Louis.

Hoop Group Jr. Elite Player of the Week

Justin Leip/Rivers School(MA): Leip, the 5’2″ lead guard led his middle school team to a 61-57 double OT win over Milton Academy. Leip had 26 points, 8 assists and 6 steals in the win. Justin has participated in Hoop Group Elite Boston Top 100, Future All American Camp as well as Hoop Group Skills Bob Hurley Camp.
