Best Girls Conference In America

The first week of scrimmages will wrap up this weekend and the count down to the season will begin. It’s been a while since we have gone into a season without a clear cut favorite. There are no super teams like the great Neptune teams of Richardson and Davis’ years. What we have this year is a conference loaded with talented seniors leading the way and returning star underclassmen.  How this will all shake out in the end is anyone’s guess. But who would ever believe a baby faced head coach would lead Manasquan to their 2nd SCT title in 3 years at the start of the season? Nobody saw Joe Whalen’s St. Rose team becoming not only one of the best teams in the Shore, but also in the state. Did anyone predict that  Tom Brennan’s Middletown South team would knock off Neptune and win it’s first state title since 1979? Yes we had a lot of surprises last year.  How about Stella Clark living up to the hype and winning Freshman of the Year? What about the Shot? You know the one by Courtney Hagaman made to put the game in overtime in Squan’s win over SJV in the SCT semi- final. Last year we saw some historic moments as Sir George Sourlis became the first coach, boys or girls, in the shore to win 600 games. There were some sad moments such as the passing of Hall of Fame Coach, Kathy Snyder.  But with that came the positive news of Caitlin Carroll coming back from Heart Surgery and Tina LeBron making a full recovery from knee surgery and ready to have a big year. There is no question last season was a year to remember, and  no question this season will produce even more exciting moments. Can you really replace great kids like Dana Carbone or Grace Fallon? Well, it’s going to be hard, but it’s the shore and it seems that great kids just come around every year….let’s hope this season is just as exciting and fun…because one thing is clear…the future is in good hands!

Time To Earn Your Dog Tags

Time to get those Dog Tags. Let’s face it, the Pre-Season, for the most part is over. Now most kids are just trying to stay ready. This is why I love the Pre- Season Boot Camp. It’s a chance for me to get an up-close and personal look at all the kids.  It’s my final look at players before the season starts.

What makes the Boot Camp really special is that we always have a few players show up that we don’t know about. They often steal the show and make names for themselves. The other thing about the Boot Camp is that there is nowhere to hide. Everyone works so hard and the talent level is insane with current stars and future stars all coming together. We always have those few talented players who stay away just to protect their reputation… I tell them you can run, but you can’t hide….lol. But can you blame them for trying? This event is no walk in the park!

The boy’s side of the Boot Camp is my chance to see the guys with fresh eyes. I know we will have plenty of talent on the boy’s side in the gym once again this year. I also will give you MY THOUGHTS about these young men. I know the talent in the gym will be special. So I will get to watch most of them and give you my thoughts about the players..

This should be a great weekend and I’m looking forward to a great time. I enjoy watching the players compete and make new friendships.
