Brookwood Bounce Elite (Can.) Captures 14u Crown at Summer Jam Fest

14u ChampionsIt took over 29 minutes before Brookwood Bounce Elite (Can.) had a lead in the 14u Championship Game at the Hoop Group’s Summer Jam Fest. But once they took it, they never gave it back.

Trailing 56-55, Kentebe Farquhar‘s (Montreal, Quebec/6-1/2018) layup started an 8-0 game-ending run which led to Brookwood capturing the title with a thrilling 63-56 win over Crusader Nation (Md.) at Competitive Edge Sports.

Until the final minutes, the game was controlled by Crusader Nation, specifically Jahlil Jenkins (Ranson, W. Va./5-9/2017).

Jenkins, who scored 30 points in his team’s semi-final win over the Montreal Ravens, finished with a game-high 26 points, and was almost singlehandedly responsible for Crusader Nation holding a 24-16 lead at halftime. Sixteen of his points came in the first half.

In the second half it seemed like it would be more of the same.

Despite Brookwood following the lead of Farquhar, who finished with a team-high 21 points, and Luguentz Dort (Montreal, Quebec/5-10/2018), who netted 19, it seemed like Jenkins always had an answer.

When Brookwood cut the Crusader lead to 46-44, Jenkins drove the lane for a layup. A few moments later with the, Crusader lead trimmed to 48-47, Jenkins nailed a beautiful running jump shot to increase the lead to 50-47.

But that would be the Crusaders high-water mark as Brookwood would sew up the title by scoring 16 of the game’s final 22 points. –@pfebbraro
