Chuba Ohams: Elite 1 Spotlight Preview

Chuba Ohams
Class: 2016
School: Putnam Science Academy (Connecticut)
Height: 6’7”
AAU: NY Panthers

Chuba Ohams grew up in the Bronx with a passion for basketball. As a way to stay out of the streets, Chuba focused on improving his game and doing well in the classroom. It didn’t come easy to the 6’7” shooting guard at first, “When I was young, I was tall and skinny and all I could really do was dribble. Nate Blue took an interest in me and has made me into a good player.”

Chuba is more than good. His most outstanding trait is the versatility he has to guard four different positions, “At my height I am able to guard anyone from point guard to power forward and cause problems. If I can continue to get my body stronger, the sky is the limit.”

In term of his potential, he is not the only one that realizes it. The high-flying scoring guard has already received offers from Providence, DePaul, Rhode Island, and Duquesne. His interest extends to schools like UCONN, Virginia, Indiana and Miami.

Last year Chuba finished up his high school career at Wadleigh, and was set to join Woodstock Academy, but with the re-opening of Putnam Science, Ohams called an audible. Ohams discussed why Putnam was so appealing, “The coaching staff and the campus are amazing, but the real reason I wanted to go was because of Mamadou Diarra and Hamidou Diallo; we are all really close.”

With all the hype surrounding those three players and the emergence of Woodstock Basketball, Chuba is sure to get some crazy buzz when he arrives at Albright College for Hoop Group Elite Session 1 on July 7th.
