Elijah Olaniyi Looks to Bring Attention to Newark East Side

One of the top high school basketball programs in New Jersey will compete in the Hoop Group Tip-Off Showcase and that team happens to be Newark Eastside. They are looking to have another big year and class of 2017 forward Elijah Olaniyi will play a huge role for the Raiders this season. He has high aspirations for this year with only one goal in mind.

“My goal for this season is to win a state championship, I won’t settle for anything less,” he said.

Olaniyi has put a lot of work and preparation for his junior season.

“I’ve put countless hours in the gym and have been working on things I need to improve on,” he told HoopGroup.com.

The junior forward watches two players primarily in the NBA for help on his own game.

“I like watching Kobe Bryant and Russell Westbrook because of the intensity they play with,” Olaniyi said.

He thinks that he and his teammates need to stay consistent with their mindset throughout the season.

“We never want to get too high or too low,” said Olaniyi. “We also need to always keep our end goal in mind.”

This upcoming event means a lot to Olaniyi and his team as it is an opportunity to prove how good they are.

“Yes we are because we feel as if other teams are sleeping on us, but they’ll see in this year’s showcase,” he said.
