Dave Hopla is regarded as one of the best shooters in the world. He has been a shooting coach for a number of NBA team, most recently the New York Knicks. As stated on his website, “Dave regularly keeps track of all his shots when he practices and lectures. In 2004 he made 98.89%. In 2005 he shot 98.20% by making an unbelievable 35,332 out of 35,979 shots!” Hoop Group Academic Elite campers were fortunate tonight to have Coach Hopla come in and give them a crash course in the art of shooting.

Dave spoke to campers about what it takes to be on top of their game. He talked about their shooting technique and how it should always be the same and it becomes the same the more you do it. Muscle memory helps create the proper technique.

Coach Hopla gave the camp two important tips about shooting, including finger tip placement on the ball and the importance of form shooting.

Form shooting may be one of the best, if not the best, way to work on your technique and perfect your stroke. However, as important as that is, proper use of the guide hand is needed too or your shot could go in many different directions.

Coach Hopla was able to talk to the campers about the importance of repetition and that everyone always has room to improve. In a unique lecture, coach Hopla shoots as he speaks, which further emphasizes how far hard work can go if you put in the time. Any player who wants to be a great shooter can learn A LOT from Coach Hopla, but hey, don’t take our word for it….the results speak for itself.
