Hoop Group will be providing daily online coverage of Elite camps in the form of “live blogs,” recognizing outstanding achievements at camp, and keeping you informed of all the latest Hoop Group Elite happenings.
In these live blogs, Hoop Group staff will note camp standouts, spectacular plays, college coaches in attendance, and more. While the bulk of updates will be text entries from HoopGroup.com writers, keep an eye out for video highlights and interviews, quotes from players, exclusive photos, Twitter updates, and more.
7:34 PM- Tryout games are over. For the rest of the night, players will go through station work. After that (at about 9:20), ESPN basketball analyst Fran Fraschilla will give a lecture and put players through drills. Fraschilla is a great presenter and was a successful Division I coach at Manhattan, New Mexico, and St. John’s. His time with players is a highlight of Academic Elite. –@Edgar_Walker
7:04 PM- Listed at 6-10, 2014 big man Glenn Hollaway (New Manchester HS, Ga.) is probably closer to 6-8, but definitely has the potential to put on another few inches. He has great length right now, and looks to be adding muscle. Holloway has decent mobility for his size and is making plays on the defensive side. We’ll be keeping a close eye on him throughout camp. –@Edgar_Walker
5:30 PM- Tryout games are highly competitive here at Academic II. Good guard play so far, and a nice amount of height present for this camp session. –@Edgar_Walker
4:40 PM- Matthew Fraschilla has excellent point guard instincts. A 2013 prospect out of Highland Park (Tex.), Fraschilla has been one of the top performers early at Academic Elite II. –@Edgar_Walker
3:42 PM- Tryout games are in full swing. No games will be played on the outdoor courts today because of heat. Following along at home? Click here to view today’s schedule.
2:27 PM- Registration is over, and the gym is currently being set up for tryout games. In tryout games, players get a chance to prove themselves, and are evaluated by their camp coaches. After tryout games, teams are re-drafted to establish a competitive balance for the rest of camp. –@Edgar_Walker
10:15 AM- Registration has opened here in Bollman Center on the campus of Albright College in Reading, PA. Academic Elite II is slated to be a great event with a great number of high-level college prospects in attendance. The last two days of Academic II will be live, meaning that Division I college coaches will be in attendance to evaluate prospective student-athletes. The first two days will see hundreds of Division II and III coaches in attendance, as well. We’ll be back around 2:30 after registration ends and tryout games begin. –@Edgar_Walker
