St. John Vianney Star Kat Egan Commits to Iona College

Four years ago I walked into Hoop Group Headquarters and saw the Dawn Karpell Camp in full swing. The kids where all getting after it and Dawn was smiling and very happy, I asked Dawn how camp was going? She then pointed to a skinny 8th grader and said “Tiny that kid is going to be special one day”. I’m not sure if Dawn Karpell knew how special KAT EGAN would truly turn out. Dawn has turned SJV into winning machine that turns out Division players like Mickey D’s makes burgers and yesterday she added to her list.

For weeks IONA COLLEGE chased Kat Egan round trying to convince her to join their program. They made it clear no player was more important was determined to prove that to her. They watched every one of her Wildcats AUU games at Boo Williams and offered her the day she stepped foot on campus. Just like Dawn Karpell they knew Kat Egan was special the day they saw her play her first game.

As a freshman and sophomore Miss Egan was a teammate of 8 division future and current Div 1 players. She played a role on one of the best 4 years runs in Shore history by a group of seniors. But her role always seems to shine in big games. It could be a 14 rebound game against what many to be the best Shore team ever in Neptune. Sometimes she would make huge plays to give her team life as she had the big offensive rebound and bucket to end the third quarter against RFH as a sophomore to wake her team up.

This year she became a leader and the backbone of SJV who lost 4 division one starters. She became a scorer and more of a ball handler. She showed she could do so much more as a player. She became one of the best players in the Shore conference and now will take those talents to Iona College.
The Egan family no doubt are very proud of Kat, but make no mistake its HER work ethic and relationship she has with teammates that matter most to then. Iona College is getting not only a great student, but a great person as well, who just happens to be one of the best players in New Jersey…..KAT EGAN GOOD LUCK IT AT IONA IT COULD NOT HAPPEN TO A BETTER KID!

On thing I must mention…Dawn Karpell has now seen 6 kids in 2 two years get full scholarships. Should how much money would that add up to in terms of money….MILLIONS!

Good luck Kat. And Tiny, you really need to get a proofreader.
