Are You on the Right Path for Skill Development?

Headquarters Instructional Programs

Tomorrow evening kids from all over the state will make the trip to hoop group headquarters to start the process of getting ready for the July recruiting period. These will be young people trying to give themselves an edge. These will be kids trying to separate themselves from other players, kids who understand skill work and AAU games go hand in hand.

Too me this message is important for AAU coaches, Parents, players and of course high school coaches. I hope AAU coaches allow their player’s time to train and get their skill sets up. This is why CORE SKILLS is so important to so many kids this time of year. So many kids don’t realize between AAU practice two or three days and playing on the weekends, it leaves little time for skill work. The coaches and parents should find ways to get their kids to programs like CORE SKILLS and give their kids an edge.

This late spring I’m amazed how two important things seem to come to light. So many Kids are not in the shape they should be in and I am amazed how poorly they shoot the ball. Kids and parents don’t seen to understand how important these skill sets are to coaches. Why you ask? It simple kids who are in great shape tend to be gym rats. Players who can shoot the ball always catch coaches’ eyes.
It little things like extra running and footwork drills to improve quickness and speed. These little things give a kid an edge. It allows a kid to know they have covered all bases and give them that all important thing call confidence!!

What makes programs like CORE SKILLS special is that it gives kid a chance. It allows that kids who doesn’t play for the big time high school or top AAU team to shine. It allows a kid to get his or her. I will always advocate for good kids who work hard.

I hope all kids understand you must make getting better your number one goal. You must do more than everyone else the next 2 months. You must start NOW… not next week or next month. Parents any coaches you respect should be telling you, that your kids can only benefit from another coaches perspective.
So what can a player expect for giving up parties and spending time with friends? Nothing! That’s right, just because you work hard doesn’t guarantee you anything, but what it will give you a chance to be at your best come July…It up to every parent, AAU coach and high school to give the kids the opportunity to be their best!

Tomorrow night many kids will be on mission to improve and to be their best. I hope CORE SKILLS will give them that little edge that pushes them ahead of the kids who maybe don’t work as hard.
