The Shore Conference is loaded with great Coaches. It’s a virtual whose who of girls basketball coaches. This year SJV’s Dawn Karpell, again proved she is one of the best in all of High school basketball. Dave Callanhan of RFH proved in year one, he is a special talent in leading RFH to an amazing season. Dave Beauchemin of Manchester is looking more and more like a rising star and was sensational this year. The job that Coach Santopietro  has done at Howell is amazing, when you consider the program had lost all direction. James Young’s team was ranked in the Top 10 all season. The Shore Conference is not just about great players but great coaches as well. But what this years COACH OF THE YEAR has done is amazing and it’s not just about wins and losses…its was more about building and saving a program.  TAMMY NICOLINI OF BARNEGAT IS THE 2017 HOOP GROUP COACH OF THE YEAR

The definition of a  successful high school coach is how a teams develops. The coach who  develops players and more importantly produces  happy faces, is wants make a coach special. There is a number of reasons why Tammy Nicolini, is our Coach of the year. Tammy Nicolini’s  team had so many  first this year, that it would take forever to list them. In every season she has been at Barnegat, the team has improved. She has also created a atmosphere of success for her team. Encouraging players to play out of season and she herself becoming part of the AAU community. She has worked with the young players in town and now has created a culture that provides kids with a chance to play basketball in a competitive winning environment. Tammy Nicolini has all the things in place, that were not there before she arrived.

ITS WAS A RECORD SETTING YEAR FOR TAMMY NICOLINI

Coaches are often measured by wins and losses. But there is something else a coach must be measured by and that’s the direction and culture of a team. Changing the culture of any program is a difficult thing to do. It’s harder when the program has no tradition to lean back on. Tammy Nicolini has now created both for Barnegat, this new tradition and culture started the day she was hired. This season, we have seen the fruits of her work blossom. This was the year that the Barnegat program surprised everyone and turned the corner. They became a winning program, players like Shannon McCoy (Most Improved Player) have received post season awards and players like Ashley Toner have moved on to play in college. Tammy Nicolini, more than anyone else has been responsible for all these new and exciting first for the Barnegat program.

TAMMY NICOLINI HAS HELPED PLAYERS LIKE McCoy TURN INTO STARS

This year under Tammy Nicolini the Barnegat girls basketball had a record breaking season. They started the season off with a surprising 8-2 record. They then made it to the Lady Wave Christmas Tournament Championship game. These early season accomplishments should have been a sign of things to come.  By seasons end Barnegat, had won a school record 16 games, exceeding everyone’s expectations in what would become a dream season. When Barnagat qualified for the Shore Conference Tournament, most thought it would the crowning moment for the team. But clearly nobody told Tammy Nicolini and her team. Barnegat lost to #10 RBR is a classic by two points. It was another example how far the Barnegat team had come in a year. Barnegat also made the State Tournament for the first time in schools history. They also shocked everyone and won a game in the tournament. Tammy Nicolini’s team has accomplished more in one season than anymore imagined…including her.

TAMMY NICOLINI HAS BARNEGAT LOOKING UP

BARNEGAT is now a program where girls can walk proud and it not because of the wins or records.. It’s because now a winning culture has been brought  not only to the school but the entire community. One that includes working hard and having respect for school and the uniform they wear. Tammy Nicolini, is 100% responsible for all of this. Tammy has created a atmosphere where kids believe that basketball can now also be one of the means to get to college.  When is the last time a BARNAGET player was all any thing? Shannon McCoy has a chance to play D1 basketball one day. Tammy Nicolini helped her to shine this year and has been one of her biggest advocates. Tammy Nicolini gave a group of  girls a vision. She got a group of girls to understand its okay to dream and have hopes on a basketball court.  She made playing basketball not only important but something the entire community could feel good about. Tammy Nicolini has created a winning atmosphere in a program, when nobody thought it was possible. She has been relentless  in her approach to turn the BARNEGAT program around. She has turned BARNAGAT into a serious program, in doing so she has become one of the best coaches in the shore. She got her team to play above its talent level. It’s why Tammy Nicolini, is the 2017 HOOP GROUP COACH OF THE YEAR…CONGRATS TO TAMMY NICOLINI AND BARNEGAT HIGH SCHOOL
