PARTIAL LIST OF SCHOOLS ATTENDING ACADEMIC ELITE

Six years ago we started a little thing called Girls Academic Elite. That first year with the help of the Central Jersey Hawks Chambers team it was a success. That entire hawk team of 9 players all were D1 players and would all go on to D1 schools. But most importantly those girls drove college coaches to that event. Now that event is a must event for college coaches every year. It has been a launching pad for so many kids. It has also become a tradition for kids who already are heavily recruited to attend the event. It’s amazing watching kids work together to ensure that other kids get the same chance as they did. This Friday we will have our first spring Academic Elite. So I want to give you a little background on… WHY we are having it, WHO should attend and who will be WATCHING.

WHY- I believe with the NCAA continuing to cut recruiting days it’s getting harder and harder for a kid to get a fair shake. Now a kid is under pressure to show what they can do in a very small window of 3 or 4 games. The college coaches know they can no longer watch a kid play over and over to get a real feel for a player. Their ability to evaluate is now more in play than ever before. I believe giving kids a chance to raise their profile before the April recruiting period is huge. The Academic Elite will allow kids who have a low profile to jump start that all important name recognition in recruiting. It also gives college coaches a quick peep at kids who are on their recruiting list, before the April recruiting period….I LIKE THE WAY WE HAVE  POSITIONED THIS EVENT.

WHO- The question that many players are asking is, should I attend? So let me help you. If you have chose a college there is no personal benefit of you attending this event. If you choose to attend to support that event I love it. It shows a young lady is about helping create opportunities  for other young ladies down the road. Sam Clark, Grace Stant, Jackie Kates, KC Chambers, Danielle Padavano, Christina Evans all for example attended Academic Elite when there was no personal benefit to them. That is a choice and make no mistake a player doing this must pay for the event. So it is a real sacrifice both financially and athletically, when a player attends who already has decided on their college.

Now if you fall in the category of all ready having a offer, and are satisfied with the schools recruiting you then again its’ a choice. But it you want to increase your pool of colleges then this event is great for you. It’s a chance for many D1,2,3 schools to watch you play. It’s the only event I know of that a college coach can watch so much talent, this time of year. The one thing I do know about kids with offers, is this, they are often afraid to play in these events, there are many reasons…but mostly it because they fear they are not at their best or a college may change their mind. Kids know this – if a school offers you, they already know who and what you can do, hiding will not help you in anyway. Now if you don’t have an offer and I don’t care what grade you are in, this event is a must. Because exposure is huge these days. Understand many D1 colleges for example are finishing recruiting classes or making offers to players BEFORE JULY.  If you are a freshman or a sophomore I simply cannot understand if you wish to play in college how you can miss this event…its makes no sense. Yesterday I spoke to a young lady who I believe will be a D1 player one day. I asked if she was coming to Academic Elite, she said she didn’t know. I was in shock and asked her why not? I asked her did she want to play in college, finally I told her you must go to the college coaches, THEY ARE NOT COMING TO YOU….people two things….GET BETTER AND GET YOUR NAME OUT THERE!

WHO WILL BE WATCHING- This event will have schools still searching for players at every level, not just for future years, but for this coming season as well. If you are a senior and have not chose a college, this is a great opportunity. There will be over 40 D2/D3 schools in the gym on Friday an no question over 60 D1 schools watching the streaming video, we will release a partial list of schools. If you would like to know if a school you’re interested in is attending, please E-mail Kessler@HoopGroup.com The entire list will be posted for all to see the day of the event.

I’d like to wish everyone good luck in the AAU season. I know it can be very stressful, but if you focus on improving, playing the right way and having fun, you will be successful. I strongly urge everyone to take personal responsibility for their recruitment. DO WHAT IS BEST FOR YOU FIRST….DON’T LET ANYONE CONTROL YOUR MOVEMENTS.
