ELLYN STOLL…. 2017 SPORTSMANSHIP AWARD WINNER

No award moves me move than THE HOOP GROUP SPORTSMANSHIP AWARD. This award is a tribute to all that is good about sports. It’s a real commentary on a players character and real reflection on there parents. The winner of this award is also a real tribute to a school and all that school represents. St. ROSES’ ELLEN STOLL is the 2017 HOOPGROUP SPORTSMANSHIP AWARD WINNERS

No award means more to me than this one. Its why we all play sports. To make friends and memories. While there will always be those who believe in negativity or talking down to others. There will ALWAYS  be parents and kids who will represent all the good things in athletics…THESE ARE THE PEOPLE WE REMEMBER MOST!

Ellyn Stoll is a real reflection of her parents

THE HOOP GROUP SPORTSMANSHIP AWARD. This award is a tribute to all that is good about sports. It’s a real commentary on a players character and real reflection on there parents. The winner of this award is also a real tribute to a school and all that school represents. St. ROSES’ ELLEN STOLL is the 2017 HOOPGROUP SPORTSMANSHIP AWARD WINNER..  “Learning how to lose is just as important as learning how to win” Pt. Boro KELLY HUGHES(Boston College). I will never forget those words spoken by Kelly Hughes. Her maturity, grace and class for such a young person was beautiful to see. ELLYN STOLL of St. Rose, reminds me of Kelly Hughes. It must be something in the water in Pt. Pleasant, they both grew up in the town. ELLYN STOLL is one of the most polite kids you will ever meet. If you’ve meet her parents, you would understand why. They are people who are always see the positive and they have passed this trait to ELLYN.

Here teammates and coaches love Ellyn

I have know ELLYN STOLL since she was very young. She has always impressed me, even as a wide eyed kid. After every training sessions, she would come up to me and say “THANK YOU”. These are words rarely spoken by kids these days, unless there is something in it for them. ELLYN STOLL, is the first one to cheer for a teammate or another kid in a training setting. It comes so natural for her, it’s who she is and how she was raised by her parents. During her career, she often was left out of the spotlight and not once did she show a hint of jealousy. I was horrified last year, when the entire St. Rose starting five was invited to a season ending awards banquet …..EXCEPT HER. ELLYN STOLL, was happy for her teammates. Not a drop of  jealousy, pure  joy for her teammates….her humility was breath taking for such a young person.  When I ask her about her school, her eyes light up. I can tell you, nobody loves or respects there school more, than Ellyn Stoll.

In a time where kids, constantly want attention. In a time where kids are disrespectful to coaches and referees. We have ELLYN STOLL who represents her family and school, like the princess over the shore empire. She is always giving off positive energy and EVERYONE loves being in presence. This why when she announced, her commitment to NJIT, everyone was thrilled. They were so thrilled, it was one of the biggest blogs ever read. Two weeks after the blog was written, it still received over 200 hits a day. Why? Because everyone loves ELLYN STOLL. It’s impossible not to like a kid who so works hard but still has an appreciation for teammates and her opponents work ethic. I think it’s during difficult times that you learn most about a teammate. It’s during these times, petty jealousies and self centered acts are exposed.  It’s during tough times you discover TRUTH. ELLYN STOLL, watched teammate after teammate, commit to college. I sat with once and tried to ease her mind and heart about her future. It was then, I knew all there was to know about ELLYN STOLL. She smiled and said I’m not worried, I’m so happy for my teammates and she meant it. You see ELLYN STOLL understands it’s  not just about her. While playing with her high school team during the recruiting period, she was asked to play a team game. She didn’t get to showcase her skills always as most do in AAU. Playing real basketball and playing the right way was expected. Many kids would have jumped ship in her spot. But ELLYN STOLL is not most kids, she has respect for all, even when it does not fit her agenda or time table. Losing kids like ELLYN STOLL to graduation is sad, because we don’t get many like her. A kid who respects everything about our sport. A kid who is mega competitive, but understands so are her opponents. Notice how opponents embrace her after games. Notice how her coaches love her and respect her. She has been an example for all on what we should get out of sports. FRIENDSHIPS, MEMORIES AND SUPPORT OF OTHERS.

Tonight St. Rose will try to do the impossible. RUTGERS PREP is the 10,000 pound gorilla. They are a team, that’s plays as a team. They can not only match St. Rose’s talent, some believe it’s better. If St. Rose can some how pull off the upset. ELLYN STOLL will be the first one cheering and the first one to praise RUTGERS PREP if her team  loses. That’s because ELLYN STOLL stands bigger than any win or lost. She is, teammate and real friend to all. This award is a tribute to all that is good about sports. It’s a real commentary on a players character and a real statement to their parents. The winner of this award is also a real tribute to a school and all that school represents. That’s why only one person, respectfully was considered for this award, that person….. St. ROSES’ ELLEN STOLL is the 2017 HOOPGROUP SPORTSMANSHIP AWARD WINNER….CONGRATS TO ELLYN STOLL.
