Should I Stay Or Should I Go?

sean-singletary.jpg “Should I Stay Or Should I Go?”, The lyrics from the popular Clash song from the early 80’s has been ringing in the ears of many of the top college prospects for the past few months. Yesterday was the deadline for the underclassmen who were early entrants for the NBA Draft to take their name out of the draft pool if they wanted to return to college.

After Pre-Draft camps and workouts for NBA scouts a few prospects have taken their name out of the draft. In many cases that is good news for their college programs. The college coaches are happy, they return a star for another season and the fans and supporters at those schools are happy because there is a greater chance for success on the hardwood this season.

In many cases the players have gotten correct feedback from the NBA people and have a better understanding of what they need to work on this year to improve their standing for next summer’s draft.

Among those who took their name out of the draft yesterday were former Eastern Invitational Co-MVP of the August Camp Session Sean Singletary (University of Virginia) and Hoop Group alum Maureece Rice (George Washington). The two former Philadelphia area high school stars will be lighting it up at the college level for another year.

Singletary averaged 19 ppg, 4.7 apg and 4.6 rpg this season while leading the Cavaliers to a 21-11 record and NCAA Tournament bid. The all time leading scorer in Philadelphia history, Rice averaged 15.8 ppg with 64 treys this season while leading GW to a 23-9 mark and NCAA Tournament spot.
