Hoop Group Junior Elite Day Four Overview

The Hoop Group Junior Elite Camp Day Four Overview- August 5, 2008

by Alex Schwartz

No, there were not throngs of college coaches in the building. No, there were not all-everything superstars in attendance. Yes, there were hundreds of kids who love basketball just having fun playing the game they love. Yes, there were young kids improving their games and working hard to get better. The Hoop Group Junior Elite Camp was not a college showcase event, though there were coaches from all levels working the event and every major East Coast recruiting service was in attendance, but it was a great camp. Kids from as far away as Texas and Wisconsin and as close as Trenton, New Jersey came to The College of New Jersey for four days to play ball, and that they did. On the final day of games, the following youngsters stood out to me during their playoff matchups:

5′10 Richard Crabtree ‘12, Tyrone Area HS (PA)
6′4 Malcolm Allgood ‘12, Kelly MS (CT)
6′0 Ben Lewis ‘12, Middetown HS (MD)
5′6 Devin Banfield ‘12, Christ the King HS (NY)
6′2 Stanley Lumpkin, Jr. ‘12, Harrisburg HS (PA)
5′10 Christopher Pauze ‘12, Lawrenceville Prep (NJ)
5′5 Patrick McGuiness ‘12, Albertus Magnus (NY)
5′9 Tyler Huffman ‘12, St. Timothy MS (CT)
5′10 Maurice Counts ‘12, Medford Tech (??)
5′9 Jihaad Jackson ‘12, Elizabeth HS (NJ)
6′1 Dylan Bridges ‘12, Newsome HS (FL)

The premiere performer from the playoff games on Tuesday was Maurice Counts. Although his squad lost in the championship, the rising freshman was fantastic. Counts was dominant down low, using all of his 70 inches to grab boards and score in the paint. In addition, he ran the floor well and was an intense baller. Counts was quite impressive.

DREAM SCHOOLS-

6′0 Ben Lewis ‘12, Middletown HS (MD): “Any DI” school, though he has rooted for Tennessee growing up.

Following the completion of the playoff games was the awards ceremony. The top players and hardest workers in camp were recognized and rightfully so, as the 150+ kids on hand all worked hard! The NBA’s Most Outstanding Player award went to the best player from the championship squad: 5′10 Richard Hoskins ‘12 of Imhotep Charter (PA). In the NCAA, the Most Outstanding Player award also was given to the best player from the team that won the title: 4′10 Mikey Dixon ‘15 of Thomas Edison Charter (DE). Mikey was not only one of the smallest kids in camp, but he was also one of the youngest. Standing under five-feet tall and heading into sixth grade, his selection as MOP is extremely impressive, and the youngster certainly deserved it. He and 5′3 Wade Baldwin ‘13 of Montgomery MS (NJ) teamed up to bring home the title for team #18, coached by Kyle Neptune, an assistant coach at Bishop Loughlin (NY) and former player at Lehigh. Meanwhile, Hoskins was astounding in leading team #3, coached by Howard assistant coach Matt Collier, to the championship. At the award ceremony, 5′10 Britton Lee ‘13 of Wilson MS (PA) was recognized as the NBA’s Station Star, an award given to the camper who was the best during morning stations. This is evidence that the kids at TCNJ really did work hard, as Britton was easily one of the best and most well-known players in camp. Despite that, he worked hard every day and was awarded for his efforts.

After the awards ceremonies were the games that ended camp, the NCAA and NBA All-Star games. In the NBA, the white team was in control for 24 of the 32 minutes of competition. Britton Lee led the way with 23 points along with four rebounds and three assists on his way to NBA All-Star game Most Outstanding Player honors. Richard Hoskins was a close second in points, scoring 22 for the white team. The camp MOP also had seven rebounds, an assist, and a steal. For the blue team, 6′2 Larry Morton of ‘13 Baumont MS (KY) was the top scorer with 12 points. He also has three boards, an assist, a steal, and a block. There were two plays that stand out in my mind from the NBA All-Star game. First was an assist dished out by 5′6 John Vassar ‘13 of The Hillside School (MA). The speedy young point guard was on the white team, and he had two spectacular assists. One of them, though, was absolutely amazing. Vassar drove to the rack, did a spin move, and kicked the ball to a wide-open teammate standing under the hole as he spun. The other great play came from 6′0 Jaylen Beckham ‘12 of Lexington Catholic (KY). He represented the Bluegrass State well by throwing down a jam during the All-Star game. Considering that Beckham has not even started high school, it was quite impressive. Meanwhile, in the NCAA All-Star game, the MOP was not a shocker, as it went to Mikey Dixon. The rising sixth grader picked up the Most Outstanding Player honors from the camp as a whole, the All-Star game, and won the Team Championship. All in all, it was a great four days for the little man. A list of all 40 All-Stars will be up shortly!

The Hoop Group Junior Elite Camp was a great time. It was exciting to watch such young kids play so well. Every time a camper made a great play it was amazing to think that he was still such a young baller. There were five kids who really stood out in the NBA Division: 6′6 Matt Banas ‘12 of Hershey HS (PA), 6′2 Brandon Austin ‘14 of Carnell MS (PA), 6′0 Jaylen Beckham ‘12 of Lexington Catholic (KY), 5′10 Britton Lee ‘13 of Wilson MS (PA), and 5′10 Richard Hoskins ‘12 of Imhotep Charter (PA). All five made the All-Star game and all of them have the potential to be stars down the road. Remember the names, and remember that they were all at the 2008 Hoop Group Junior Elite Camp!

5′3 Wade Baldwin ‘14, Montgomery MS (NJ)
5′11 Dylan Hroncich ‘13, Englishtown MS (NJ)
5′11 Trevonn Morton ‘13, JHS 288 (NY)

A baker’s dozen of these 30 campers stood out to be as the premiere ballers on day three of The Hoop Group Junior Elite Camp. Reggie Cameron showed off a nice game, and is agile for his size. The six-footer passes the ball well, especially for his size and age. Dylan Bridges was a glue guy for his time. He is the type of kids who puts in hard work and it shows, as Dylan had a solid outing on Monday in the game I saw him play. Eli Thomas was fantastic. The rising freshman is built like a linebacker, and he plays like a fullback. Thomas takes the ball to the hole whenever possible, and does a good job of it. Ben Lewis, John Vassar, Malcolm Allgood, and Richard Hoskins all play on the same team, and led their squad back from a 20+ deficit to pick up the W, so all four are top-notch performers from Monday. Lewis is a nice rebounder who plays well down low. Vassar is a speedy point guard who liked to drive to the hole. Allgood is a beast on the glass, grabbing rebounds left and right. Hoskins is an ultra-athletic big-time performer with the body of a kid a year or two older than him. Hoskins is one of the top players, and long-term prospects, at TCNJ. Jaylen Beckham is making his trip from Kentucky worthwhile, as he has created a lot of buzz. He may well be the camp’s most athletic kid, and he has some nice moves. Beckham is also a solid defender. Patrick Zanzalari was unstoppable in the contest I saw him play. The big man works it around the hoop and just cannot be guarded. Brandon Austin probably had his best day yet today. He knocked down a number of threes in a close-fought early evening battle, and ran the point quite well. Austin gets to the hoop himself, and from there either shoots or, more frequently, dishes it off. Wade Baldwin demonstrated a great jumper and a nice all-around game. He scores on both jumpers and near the hole. Last but not least is Floyd Preito, who was great for the third straight day. He is strong and uses that to his advantage, bullies defenders to get to the rim. Preito makes use of his size and deceptive quickness as well.

DREAM SCHOOLS-

6′0 Jaylen Beckham ‘12, Lexington Catholic (KY): Kentucky or Louisville

6′4 Malcolm Allgood ‘12, Kelly MS (CT): Florida

5′10 Richard Hoskins ‘12, Imhotep Charter (PA): Memphis

6′0 Reggie Cameron ‘13, Hackensack MS (NJ): North Carolina

5′9 Kaison Randolph ‘14, Foundation Academy (NJ): North Carolina

Howard University Assistant Coach Matt Collier’s team was a part of two spectacular overtime games today, the first of which involved an unreal comeback. Collier squad, team #3, looked to be completely lost after the first quarter of action in its afternoon contest, as they were trailing 25-2. Wayne Jones of Big Time Basketball was leading his boys, team #9, and it seemed that their lead would be insurmountable. The score remained far apart heading into the fourth quarter, as team #9 was completely in control of the matchup. When the last eight minutes of play began, team #3 was trailing by 20 points. Malcolm Allgood ‘12, Ben Lewis ‘12, Richard Hoskins ‘12, John Vassar ‘13, and Co. would not go down without a fight though. Allgood’s rebounding, Lewis’ all-around play, Hoskins’ scoring, and Vassar’s court leadership brought team #3 all the way back into the contest, and the boys were down single digits with under one minute to go. The squad scored with the clock showing 0:06 remaining in the fourth quarter, and then forced a turnover after the inbounds play from team #9. That led to Collier’s bunch having the ball in the other team’s end with three seconds left. That was just enough time for Richard Hoskins. The Pennsylvanian got fouled, sending him to the line for a one and one with no time left. Hoskins calmly knocked down both free throws, tying the game at 49 and sending it to overtime. In OT, Michael Capozzoli ‘12 of St. Ann Regional (NJ) scored a quick bucket to put team #3 ahead 51-49, and that was followed up shortly thereafter by a deuce from Hoskins, and then one by Allgood. Collier’s team led 55-49 after one minute of the two minute overtime period. A bucket by John LaRue ‘12 narrowed the lead down to just four points with 54 ticks left, and then team #3 was called for a 10 second violation in the backcourt. Matt Xie ‘12 was able to get to the stripe, where he hit one of two shots, making it a one possession game with less than 30 seconds left. It was too little too late though, and team #3 kept its late lead and stole the win. Congratulations to the members of team #3 for a great win!

Tuesday should be a fun day, as the best players in camp will compete against one another in all-star games. There will be one in the NBA and one in the NCAA. As well, it’s playoff time here at TCNJ, and the competition should be fierce. There are a number of 5-1 teams, so the “postseason” should be enjoyable. If you want to know how it ends up, check back soon, and you’ll find out.

The Hoop Group Junior Elite Camp Day Two Overview- August 3, 2008

Monday, August 4th, 2008

by Alex Schwartz

A handful of players have already begun to make a name for themselves here at The College of New Jersey through their play at The Hoop Group Junior Elite Camp. With two leagues, the NBA and the NCAA, there is equal opportunity for players of all classes and sizes to showcase their abilities. It’s great to watch the youngsters run around and enjoy basketball, as that’s how it really should be. These are the type of kids who make you remember why basketball is such a great sport. It’s not all fun and games, though. There are a number of ultra-talented young ballers here. The following campers stood out to me on Sunday:

5′10 Jamal Adu-Peasah ‘13, Baumont MS (KY)
6′6 Matt Banas ‘12, Hershey HS (PA)
6′4 Damien Williams ‘12, Plymouth Whitemarsh HS (PA)
5′8 Luke Moyer ‘12, Souderton Area HS (PA)
6′2 Brandon Austin ‘14, Carnell MS (PA)
5′2 Malcolm Robinson ‘12, Bayonne HS (NJ)
5′9 Cody Combs ‘12, Holy Spirit HS (NJ)
5′11 Steven Parr ‘12, East Catholic HS (CT)
5′4 Austin Malone-Mitchell ‘13, Sherwood Intermediate School (WI)
5′4 Mark Granville ‘12, Solebury Prep (PA)
6′2 Larry Morton ‘13, Baumont MS (KY)
6′0 Nafis Brown ‘12, Harrisburg HS (PA)
5′10 Marcus Carter ‘12, Union HS (NJ)
5′10 Daniel Decker ‘12, Timothy Christian (PA)
6′0 Eli Thomas ‘12, John Harris HS (PA)
6′4 Ryan Morris ‘12, Barnegat MS (NJ)
5′6 Christopher Banks ‘12, West Windsor-Plainsboro HS North (NJ)
5′10 Britton Lee ‘13, Wilson MS (PA)
5′4 Tristen Newman ‘14, Coulson Tough Elementary (TX)
5′5 Bryan Rivers ‘13, Grover MS (NJ)
Ryan Spengler ‘14, Unknown
5′8 Floyd Preito ‘13, Greenfield MS (PA)
5′2 Trey Lowe ‘15, Fisher MS (NJ)
5′8 Stephen Vasturia ‘13, St. Mary of Lakes (NJ)
6′1 Bobby Ahearn ‘13, Furnace Brook MS (MA)
4′10 ShaQuan Worthy ‘14, Gregory School (NJ)
5′1 Langston Glaude ‘14, Princeton Day School (NJ)
5′4 Billy Maltz ‘13, George Washington MS (NJ)
5′6 Kadar Holloman ‘13, Springside MS (NJ)
5′5 Malik Smith ‘14, Feltonville School of Arts and Sciences (PA)

Many of these names may seem familiar, as some of the same players were dominant on both day one and day two. Thus, they are on the list for both days. Kids such as Brandon Austin, Larry Morton, and Britton Lee, have a shot at making the list all four days. The top-of-the-line young guns really stand out, as they play well above what their age would indicate. There were seven guys who I would say were day two’s premiere performers: Kadar Holloman, Malik Smith, Bobby Ahearn, Matt Banas, Billy Maltz, Luke Moyer, and Damien Williams. Holloman is a solid all-around player with solid size for his age. Smith has a great handle and gets to the hoop well.  The rising seventh grader is quite talented already. Bobby Ahearn may have been the most impressive player in camp today. He is an absolute beast. Ahearn is a force down low and just destroys kids with his size and natural ability. Matt Banas is another big man with talent. At 6′6, Banas is the tallest camper at TCNJ. He can not only score in large bunches in the paint; he runs the floor well too. Luke Moyer has a great jump-shot and can also drive to the rim. His bread and butter is certainly his jumper, and he utilizes it well. Damien Williams is a load in the low post. He is really athletic, has great length, and has some nice moves. Williams is almost unstoppable.

DREAM SCHOOLS-

6′6 Matt Banas ‘12, Hershey HS (PA): Duke

6′2 Larry Morton ‘13, Baumont MS (KY): “probably Texas”

5′6 Christopher Banks ‘12, West Windsor-Plainsboro HS North: Kansas

5′5 Malik Smith ‘14, Feltonville School of Arts and Sciences (PA): Florida

The camp has been a joy so far for everyone involved, especially the players. The kids get solid coaching from their quality camp coaches. The kids seem to be having fun, and that’s great, but the coaching that they are getting is just as important. Stay tuned for more from The Hoop Group Junior Elite Camp.

Basketball Spotlight covers Hoop Group Junior Elite

Monday, August 4th, 2008

by Mike Melton

Day 1:

The Hoop Group Jr. Elite Camp kicked off today and Basketball Spotlight was in the building for the action. Today the campers played in organized scrimmages before in order the pick the squads. This gave us a chance to check out some of the top players we came across.

Day 1 Top Performers

Class 2012

Jaylen Beckham 6’0 Guard (Lexington, KY)- Beckham represented the Blue Grass State to the fullest. His has good size, swift moves and some big time swagger. He knows how to get rid of defenders with a strong crossover and other impressive dribble drives. Once he gets past he finishes at the cup very easy.

Nate McGinley 6’0 Guard (Louisville, CO)- McGinley can stick the jumper but also has some sneaky quickness which helps him explode to the bucket for scores. He plays with a lot of passion on both ends of the floor and he is one to watch the rest of camp.

Richard Hoskins 5’10 Guard (Philadelphia, PA)- Hoskins plays extremely hard as many Philly players do. He has a guard size but will stick his head in the lane for a couple of rebounds. I also like his nose for the ball and his knack for scoring.

Tyler Huffman 5’9 Guard (Hartford, CT)- Huffman is a hard nose guard with some slick moves with the rock. He thrives in the transition game where he usually sets up teammates or scores himself. I like his feel for the game and willingness to push the rock.

Class 2013

Kavon Stewart 5’11 Guard (Paterson, NJ)- The lefty didn’t have any competition in his scrimmage setting. He zipped past defenders for easy scores and hit unexpected teammates for passes. I like the fact that he played hard even though the competition appeared to be beneath his level.

Sterling Johnson 6’0 Forward (Wilmington, DE)- Johnson is a southpaw with a lot of strength and scoring ability especially in transition. In the half court set he drives to the cup hard but doesn’t have enough range on his jumper yet. I like his game though.

Britton Lee 5’10 Guard (Philadelphia, PA)- Philly keeps producing guards and Lee fits into the mold. He has the stocky Kyle Lowry type frame and the explosion to go along with it. He has decent moves off the bounce and prefers the pull up jumper for scoring. But don’t be mistaken he will also finish at the cup.

Trevis Wyche 5’2 Guard (Neptune, NJ)- I was glad to watch Wyche play because I didn’t really see him that much this year. I must say that he has packed some bulk on his frame but still has the quickness and court savvy to make plays. I looked very impressive in his showing also.

Class 2014

Brandon Austin 6’2 Forward (Philadelphia, PA)- Yes it’s him again and Austin showed why he is one of the top players in the country. I played primarily the wing against older competition and stood out. His ball handling skills continue to improve every time I see him and he makes every thing else seem very easy. Austin is by far the top player in this class in attendance and he might make a run at those honors in some of the older divisions.

Deante Cole 5’0 Guard (Ewing, NJ)- Cole seems to give me a good showing every time I check for him. The small lefty drives to the cup like the wind and either scores on scooping layups or drops off dazzling passes. The Mercer County product doesn’t back down from any opponents.

Nazier Chew 5’5 Guard (Trenton, NJ)- When Chew decides to turn it on no one can stop him from getting to the cup. He got through the defense with dribbles moves with either hand and made some tough finishes at the rim. He just has to continue to play inspired on the floor.

Wade Baldwin 5’3 Guard (Montgomery, NJ)- Baldwin had his wet jumper flowing but also showed a lot of work on defense and when attacking the goal. I like his energy on the floor and he seems to have enormous work ethic.

Class 2015

Mikey Dixon 4’10 Guard (Wilmington, DE)- Dixon is a blur with the rock and can over dribble at times but you disregard that when you watching his work. He hits the gaps so quickly and usually makes go decisions with the pill. He’s very competitive and wants the rock in his hands each time down the floor.

___________________________________________________________________

 Day 2

The games at the Hoop Group Jr. Elite Camp kicked off today with some fierce battles in the morning session. Some of the players from the scrimmages shined while some other players made their presence felt for the first time. Here’s a breakdown of who we saw this morning.

Class 2012

Jaylen Beckham 6’0 Guard (Lexington, NJ)- Beckham is beginning to establish himself as the best rising 9th grader in the camp. He got it in on both ends of the floor especially on defense causing trouble for Britton Lee from Philly. On offense he was his usual aggressive self but did dominate the rock a little too much at times. When learns to trust he teammates a little he will flourish even more.

Matt Banas 6’6 Forward (Hershey, PA)- I like Banas sized and aggressiveness around the basket. He has nice face up touch and uses his long arms to disturb shooters in his vicinity. Matt uses his work ethic on the floor keeps to the rock alive for his squad.

Elijah Hughes 5’5 Guard (Elizabeth, NJ)- Hughes is a guard built like former Duke Star Jay Williams. He pushed the rock quickly but seems to look for his own shot little too much for a point guard. Working on dishing the rock will help him out in the future.

Class 2013

Britton Lee 5’10 Guard (Philadelphia, PA)- Lee didn’t back down in his match up with Beckham and even had his moments. The battle rocket guard put on a couple of dribble moves that had Beckham off balance before hitting his pull up jumper. He competited to the end.

Austin Hawkins 5’9 Guard (Philadelphia, PA)- Hawkins showed signs of good skills with his ability to distribute the rock. He isn’t extremely quick at this point but he knows his way around the floor and doesn’t rush opportunities when making plays.

Larry Morton 6’2 Guard (Lexington, KY)- Morton is a bruising player when driving to the hole. His body mass makes it very difficult for defenders to contain him on this level. He matched up with Brandon Austin and held his using his strength to get anywhere he wanted on the floor. Larry also has some mid range touch that stands out.

Kavon Stewart 5’10 Guard (Paterson, NJ)- Stewart wasn’t really in the flow offensively but dug deep on the defensive end locking down his opponent. He moved his feet well beating the ball handler to the spot and making him non- existent at times. Offensively he’s adjusting to playing in the backcourt with Beckham.

Austin Malone-Mitchell 5’6 Guard (Shorewood, WI)- Mitchell took the trip from Wisconsin and isn’t wasting his time. The shifty uses hesitation moves to make his way to the cup before finishing with buckets. He’s strong with either hand and has good court vision.

Class 2014

Brandon Austin 6’2 Guard (Philadelphia, PA)- Speaking of Austin it’s totally joy watching this kid play. Today he ran the point and has a natural feel for the position including the love of setting his teammates up for buckets. At times his comrades didn’t even expect for the passes to arrive. His confidence is now oozing when he performs which is making him standout as the top prospect regardless of class at this event.

The Hoop Group Junior Elite Camp Day One Overview- August 2, 2008

Sunday, August 3rd, 2008

by Alex Schwartz

With the summer evaluation period having come and gone, it’s time for the grassroots basketball world to move on from college showcase events. That’s where The Hoop Group Junior Elite Camp comes in. Some of the top rising sixth, seventh, eighth, and ninth graders in America are at The College of New Jersey for the best in Instruction, Competition, and Exposure. Although these kids are not yet playing for college scholarships, and many have not even begun to think about high school, there are a number of talented kids on hand. Numerous players caught my eye today during the tryout phase of the camp:

5′10 Danny McKinless ‘12, St. Joseph’s HS (Ringwood, NJ)
6′2 Brandon Austin ‘14, Carnell MS (PA)
5′2 Malcolm Robinson ‘12, Bayonne HS (NJ)
5′6 Christopher Banks ‘12, Community MS (NJ)
5′9 Cody Combs ‘12, Holy Spirit HS (NJ)
5′10 Britton Lee ‘13, Wilson MS (PA)
5′11 Michael Capozzoli ‘12, St. Ann Regional HS (NJ)
5′4 Mark Granville ‘12, Solebury Prep (PA)
6′0 Sterlin Johnson ‘13, Talley MS (DE)
5′6 Carlton Carter ‘13, Christ Chapel Academy (VA)
5′11 Robert Lawler, III ‘12, John Handley HS (VA)
5′11 Steven Parr ‘12, East Catholic HS (CT)
6′2 Armando Gomez ‘12, Harrisburg HS (PA)
5′8 Floyd Prieto ‘13, Greenfield MS (PA)
5′9 Darrien Banks ‘13, Community MS (NJ)
6′2 Larry Morton ‘13, Baumont MS (KY)
5′4 Austin Malone-Mitchell ‘13, Shorewood Intermediate (WI)
5′2 Isiah Powell ‘14, Chapin School (NJ)
5′10 Jamal Adu-Peasah ‘13, Baumont MS (KY)
4′10 Mikey Dixon ‘15, St. Peter’s (DE)
5′3 Wade Baldwin ‘14, Montgomery MS (NJ)
5′6 Jamal Carter ‘13, Harrisburg MS (PA)
5′11 Trevonn Morton ‘13, JHS 288 (NY)

Mikey Dixon is a great example of a kid who does not let size hold him back. The rising sixth grader from Delaware is sub-five foot, but that has not stopped him from generating a lot of buzz already. Dixon, who will be in only sixth grade next year, has a lot of talent. The little man has great dribbling skills and is fearless on the court. Watch out for Mikey down the road. Another camper from the First State grabbed my attention on Saturday, Sterlin Johnson. The rising eighth grader was phenomenal. He has a complete game and can play either forward spot. People can rip on Delaware for not being a great basketball state, but there is some young talent there is Dixon ‘15, Johnson ‘13, and Trevor Cooney ‘11. The best pure prospect in camp is probably Brandon Austin, a rising seventh grader from Philadelphia. Already 6′2, Austin is a complete man amongst boys, despite the fact that he is playing up. Austin is the type of kid who is the real deal as a youngster and stays good for a while. I say this because although he is 6′2 in seventh grade, Brandon is a swingman rather than a post player. Thus, even if he stops growing, he will have the perimeter skills necessary to be successful. Brandon Austin is the real deal. Another “underclassmen” from Philly stood out today, Britton Lee. The class of 2013 stud has the biggest name of everyone in camp. The combo guard has a lot of talent, and is quick and athletic. He is almost six feet tall already, and it will be interesting to see how Lee performs as other kids in his class catch up to his speed and athleticism. Either way, Britton is a nice kid off the court and a fine talent on it. Apparently Kentucky has some talent in its middle school ranks. Larry Morton and Jamal Adu-Peasah are two of the four Bluegrass State prospects in camp. Morton is a big man who can also run the floor and has a nice handle. Adu-Peasah is a complete package with a lot of talent. Malcolm Robinson, a rising freshman, is a nice floor general at the point guard spot. He is quick and distributes the ball well. Richard Hoskins, a rising freshman, will be attending a Philadelphia powerhouse, Imhotep Charter, and for good reason. Hoskins can flat out ball. The kid has a nice shot and will be one to keep an eye on during camp and beyond. Another player that deserves a specific mention is Armando Gomez. Harrisburg High School is loaded with talent, and Gomez will come in and be someone for the program to build around. The rising freshman is an absolute beast in the paint. He has nice post moves and snatches a lot of boards.

DREAM SCHOOLS-

Brandon Austin ‘14, Carnell MS (PA): None, ”I don’t really have one.”

Malcolm Robinson ‘12, Bayonne HS (NJ): USC, “I want to go to USC. My favorite football and basketball players went there: Reggie Bush and OJ Mayo.”

Britton Lee ‘13, Wilson MS (PA): Memphis or Villanova/Temple, “[It was] Memphis, but now I’m thinking about staying closer to home [at] . . . Temple or Villanova.”

Armando Gomez ‘12, Harrisburg HS (PA): Duke or North Carolina, “but whatever school is . . . looking to give me a scholarship I’ll go to.”

Darrien Banks ‘13, Community MS (NJ): Kansas

Isiah Powell ‘14, Chapin School (NJ): Florida and Tennessee

There are exactly 100 players in the NBA Division of The Hoop Group Elite Junior Elite Camp. This group features all of the rising freshmen, and a select handful of younger players. The draft took place tonight. Here’s how the top three picks at each position went:

Centers: #1- 6′6 Matt Banas ‘12 of Hershey MS (PA), #2- 6′4 Damien Williams ‘12 of Plymouth Whitemarsh (PA), #3- 6′4 Malcolm Allgood ‘12 of Kelly MS (CT)

Point Guards: #1- 5′10 Britton Lee ‘13 of Wilson MS (PA), 5′11 Haisheen McIntyre ‘13 of Harrisburg MS (PA), #3- Carlton Carter ‘13 of Christ Chapel Academy (VA)

Small Forwards: #1- 6′2 Brandon Austin ‘14 of Carnell MS (PA), 6′2 Stanley Lumpkin ‘13 of Harrisburg MS (PA), #3- Michael Capozzoli ‘12 of St. Ann Regional HS (NJ)

Power Forwards: 6′2 Larry Morton ‘13 of Beaumont MS (KY), #2- 6′2 Logan McDonald ‘12, #3- 6′0 Sterlin Johnson ‘13 of Talley MS (DE)

Shooting Guards: #1- 6′0 Jaylen Beckham ‘12 of Lexington Catholic (KY), #2- 5′10 Danny McKinless of St. Joseph’s HS (Ringwood, NJ), #3- 5′10 Richard Hoskins of Imhotep Charter (PA)

The Hoop Group Junior Elite Camp should be a fun time for everyone involved. Who doesn’t love to watch kids just go out and enjoy the game? Prior to the actual camp even starting, there were kids in the TCNJ Rec Center playing full court pickup games. This should be a great camp, so make sure you check back for more updates on the action!
