Just a day after expanding his college list to six schools, 2013 prospect Troy Williams took the floor at the Hoop Group Southern Jam Fest, playing with Boo Williams 17U (VA).
Williams had intended to announce his college decision a few weeks ago, choosing between Kentucky and North Carolina. He ended up electing to delay his commitment, and is now considering four additional high-level programs.
“I’ve been in contact with Florida, Louisville, Georgetown, and South Carolina, along with Kentucky and UNC,” the 6’6” wing stated on Friday afternoon.
Williams went on to describe his style of play, and how he feels he will project to the college level.
“Most schools are recruiting me to play the 2 and the 3, but most for the 3, because that’s my regular position….I can play both.”
“I like playing an up-tempo game, real fast, letting it go up and down,” he went on.
A long and athletic player, Williams has exceptional bounce and a good feel for the game. He finishes with power around the rim, and is arguably one of the most explosive players in the nation.
Williams scored 11 points on Friday evening in a 62-29 win, attacking the rim constantly and playing very well in transition. He also flashed some excellent skill in handling and distributing the ball, and worked very well with point guard Anthony Barber. Barber is ranked as one of the top five point guards in the nation, and scored 18 points.
A Hampton, VA native who attends local Phoebus High School, Williams was excited to be playing the Southern Jam Fest at Boo Williams Sportsplex, his hometown venue.
“[I’m looking forward to] just meeting new people and seeing other teams play…I get to see a lot of the other Under Armour teams play and more,” Williams said.
Rated by Rivals as the 19th-best prospect in the class of 2013, Williams said he has no timetable for making a final college decision and that his six-school list is not set in stone.
