Point Beach Cruises Past Manasquan at Boardwalk Hoop Group Showcase

LONG BRANCH– Behind 13 points from junior Matt Farrell, Point Pleasant Beach topped Manasquan 48-42 in the opening game of the Hoop Group Boardwalk Showcase at Long Branch High School.

“We came in here knowing Manasquan was going to be a tough game,” said Farrell, who, in addition to his 13 points grabbed seven rebounds and dished out six assists to be named team MVP, “I think our depth, which I feel is as deep as any in the Shore Conference, really helped us.”

The Garnet Gulls (8-0) never trailed and physically dominated the Warriors (7-2) from the opening tip. Jumping out to a 7-0 lead, the Gulls used a key 8-3 run at the end of the third to take go in front 37-28.

Senior P.J. Kineavy, who finished with 11 points, nailed a key 3-pointer during the third-quarter run.

Senior Jimmy Walsh netted a game-high 14 points to lead the Warriors and garner team MVP honors.
