Bob Hurley Camp: A MUST Attend Camp Next Summer

It’s always a special time when Coach Hurley makes his way to the Pocono Mountains for Hoop Group Skills Camp. After all, how often do you get the chance to learn from a State and National Championship winning coach? Anyone who has played basketball has heard about Coach Hurley and the legendary St. Anthony High School in Jersey City, New Jersey. He has helped lead the Friars to an unprecedented 27 state championships, four national championships and has been named the USA Today National Coach of the Year three times. For three weeks every summer, Coach Hurley comes to Skills Camp to work with boys and girls who have a passion for the game.

One reason Coach Hurley’s camp is so great is because of the talent that you will find there. This week several St. Anthony Friars made their way up to camp, including Markis McDuffie, ranked in the Top 150 in the class of 2015 by Rivals.com. Coach Hurley’s players bring high IQs and tremendous athleticism to camp, adding an extra level of excitement to the week.

Taurean Thompson and Idris Joyner got the highlights going with dunks in opening scrimmages

As exciting as the gameplay is at camp due to the high levels of talent, Bob Hurley Camp is also an incredible place for campers to learn from the best. Aside from being drilled by a Hall of Fame coach every morning during stations, players also get to hear from great coaches and basketball minds daily during player lectures. This past week of camp saw the likes of Joe Mantegna (Blair Academy) Mike Kelly (Hoops 101), Herb Magee (Philadelphia University) and Tobin Anderson (St. Thomas Aquinas) speak.

Two Hall of Fame coaches, Bob Hurley and Herb Magee, were at the same place last week, Hoop Group Skills Camp.

Lastly, as with every camp we host, there were a lot of awards to give out when this week came to an end. After a hard week of working, it’s great to be able to acknowledge those who stood out above the rest with camp awards. Here is our full list of team champions and award winners for each division from this past week.
