How do I know Hoop Group Skills Camp at Pocono is the right fit for my child?

If your son or daughter is looking to work with great coaches to improve their skills on the basketball court, wants to play in 3 quality games a day, and participate in multiple skill development sessions and contests everyday, then Hoop Group Skills would be a perfect choice for you! Camp is open for players of all abilities, ages 9-18. Players range from beginner to advanced and are placed at the appropriate level for games. Hoop Group Skills Camp has been the nation’s #1 instructional camp for 55 summers and we provide an unforgettable experience for our campers while building their game.

How do I know which session will be best for my child?

Call us at 732-502-2255 and ask for Joe. We can answer any questions you may have and help you place your child in the correct week for them. Whether you are a beginning looking to improve your skills, an experienced player looking to improve a specific area of your game, or a rising star hoping to make a name for yourself, we have a camp session for you!

How can I pay for camp?

You can pay for camp by via our online store.  We take major credit cards and electronic check for online payment. Payment can also be made via credit card or electronic check over the phone. If you want to pay with a check, please send it to the following address, with a completed registration form.

Can parents attend and watch camp?

We love having parents attend camp and watching their son or daughter! There are hotels that are close by that parents can stay during the time their child is at camp.

What can you do if my child has food allergies?

We will put your child at a table in the dining hall where we will not serve the food(s) that he or she is allergic to. We will also notify our trainer of your child’s allergies. We can accommodate alternative food options for your child to meet their needs. Our chef is very accommodating and experienced with preparing meals for specific needs.

What is cancellation insurance?

If you purchase cancellation insurance when you pay for camp ($60), you are able to receive a refund if you cancel 10 days before the start of camp. If you cancel after the seven day period with cancellation insurance you will receive a credit for any Hoop Group event, valid for 13 monthsWithout cancellation insurance, if you cancel before 7 days of the start of camp, you will receive a credit. After the seven day period without cancellation insurance, you will not receive your money back.

How can my son get into Jr. Elite Camps?

Campers must be referred by their coaches for these sessions. Ask your coach to call us to recommend your son. This camp features a high-level workout and brings in the top young competition on the East Coast.

If I sign up for a camp with a specialty coach, will he be there the entire time?

YES! We pride ourselves on our specialty coaches camps! The specialty coaches are at the entire camp and lead on-court instruction, lectures, and game-play. We are lucky to have some of the best coaches in basketball with us in the summer to share their expertise with campers.

What are the facilities like?

Traditional style camp with 38 cabins, featuring 8-10 bunks in each cabin. We have an air-conditioned dining hall where our family-style meals are served each day. We have 15 outdoor courts and 2 covered courts. There are 4 bathhouses, all newly renovated, where campers have individual showers and stalls.

What time is Check In and Check Out for Camp?

Check in for 5 day camps is generally from 1-3PM on the first day. Check out for these camps is at 1PM on the last day. We have an awards ceremony to wrap up camp. Parent are invited to come watch the playoffs that morning and view the Awards Ceremony!

Will college coaches be recruiting players at camp?

The only college coaches at camp will be the ones that are working as coaches for the camp. Hoop Group Skills Camp is an instructional camp that takes pride in teaching the game and developing players skill-sets. If you are a High School upperclassmen looking to be recruited by college coaches, then Hoop Group Elite would be a perfect fit for you!

Is camp broken down by age?

Campers will play with players within their age group. At most, they will play with one grade above or below their current grade. If a player is playing extremely well in their division, and can be moved up, we will do that to best suit your child.

What types of coaches will be working?

Our coaching staff is diverse and features great instructors from the Jr. High, High School, Prep School, and NCAA levels.

Is it okay for my child to come to camp alone?

Absolutely! A majority of the campers will come by themselves. Many campers end up making many new friends through their experiences on and off the court at Hoop Group Skills Camp!

Can my child pick their cabin mates?

If your child plans on rooming with friends, all you have to do is let us know and we will make the arrangements for you! Many players come with friends/teammates and have a great bonding experience, both on and off the court.

How can my child get to camp if I can’t drive him/her?

There is a bus station in nearby Stroudsburg, PA that is convenient to get to camp. Players can then take a cab from the station to our camp ground. If they are flying into an airport, then a car service or taxi would be most convenient.

Is there a nurse/athletic trainer on site?

We have a certified athletic trainer at camp 24/7 who is well versed in taking care of our campers.

What do I do with medication that my child needs to take?

We ask you to check your medicine in with the trainer and let them make sure each kid takes the medicine at meals or as prescribed.

Is my child too old for Father/Son or Parent/Daughter weekend?

The oldest campers that attend for father/son are usually in 8th grade.

Where will my child be staying during the camp?

Campers stay in cabins that have 4 or 5 bunk beds. Each cabin then houses 8-10 campers. Each camper has their own bed and shelf space. There is a power outlet in each bunk, as well as lockers for their belongings.

Where do campers use the bathroom?

We have 4 modern bathhouses. The showers and stalls are individual and not communal. There are plenty of stalls, sinks, and showers for each camper.

Will my child stay well hydrated?

We have water fountains surrounding each court, as well as a great partnership with Gatorade, that provides us with drinks throughout the summer. Every court will have water fountains and coolers of Gatorade/water for players to stay hydrated during the day.  We also have a canteen where campers can purchase additional drinks. Water is served at every meal during the day. Our coaches and staff constantly remind campers to find the water fountains during their time at camp.

Does my child need cash?

There is nothing you can use cash for on camp grounds, so you do not need cash at camp. All money should be put on your canteen card before camp so it will not be lost or stolen.
