Academic and Metro Top 100 Recap

Academic and Metro Top 100 Recap

Two separate events brought over 230 players to the Hoop Group Headquarters in one weekend for the Academic and Metro Top 100’s. With over 20 college coaches in the building throughout the two days, the players were given an opportunity to be seen and coached!

The Show-and-Go portion of the clinic was filled with players dialed into our top-notch staff, and applying what they were learning to the drills. They competed, went hard, and were given some tools to make themselves better!

After the players were split up in to teams the first game set began! The teams that that did not play in the 1st game set headed upstairs to a Recruiting Seminar and Q&A with former D1 Head Coach Pat Kennedy. Coach Kennedy educated the student-athletes on the recruiting process, and what it takes to play the game at the next level.

Game sets were characterized by high intensity basketball! The players competed, shared the ball, and showcased their skill to an audience of college coaches. With each team playing two games, each player had the opportunity to have a role with their team and show what they could do.

The Hoop Group Top 100 tour made its final stop at Riverbank State Park (NY) this past Friday. There was plenty of talent on hand ranging from the classes of 2015 to 2019. It was great to finish the Top 100 tour on such a high note. Here is a recap of Friday’s events, including head shots, combine results and player evaluations.

Also, here are some of the players who stood out Friday night:

Losini Kamara (‘17 SG/Long Island Lutheran, NY)

Kamara was knocking down shots on a consistent basis. The one question mark with his game has been his jump shot and he definitely answered that question Friday night. He was also looking to get others involved. Long Island Lutheran has a stud in Kamara. He is definitely someone to keep an eye on.

Tyrone Cohen (’16 SG/Christ The King, NY)
The Christ The King product had a great showing on Friday night. He showed off his shot making ability while being very explosive on the perimeter. Cohen will add a lot to a loaded Christ The King team this year. There is definitely a reason why Division 1 coaches are starting to take notice of him.

Daniel Cabassa (’17 SF/Holderness Prep, NH)

Cabassa showed off his rebounding ability as well as his athleticism. He is a guy with a very high ceiling and someone who will make an impact any time he steps on the floor. He showed at the Top 100 that he will only continue to improve.

Ismael Massoud (’18 SG/Berkeley Carroll, NY)

Massoud has a tremendous amount of potential. He has good size for his position and knows how to play the game. He got others involved while still being very assertive scoring the basketball. It will be fun to watch his game grow.

Maxwell Lorca (’18 C/Poly Prep, NY)

Lorca’s play improved as the Top 100 went on. He showed off his touch around the rim as well as his high upside. Standing at 6’8” with a good body for a high level of basketball, the sky is the limit for Lorca. He will make a huge impact at Poly Prep this year.

Deondre Bourne (’17 SG/Leman Prep, NY)

Bourne has a very advanced basketball I.Q. and has great court vision. Bourne’s shot making ability is also at a high level. Once he puts on muscle Bourne will be a prospect multiple college programs will go after. Overall, he had a great showing at the Hoop Group Top 100.

Honorable Mentions
Klay Brown (’16 SG/Christ The King, NY)
Emmanuel Chukwu (’16 PF/Monsignor Scanlan, NY)
Mikey Mota (’17 PF/Christ The King, NY)

Baltimore Top 100 Recap

IMG_3235

On most occasions, trips to the DMV are awful experiences for car owners. Last Saturday was an exception as the Hoop Group Top 100 Tour made its way to the Park School in Baltimore last weekend before returning home for two Top 100s this Saturday. Our second trip to the DMV this fall reminded us how much talent surrounds the area. Here is a recap of Saturday’s events, including player head shots, combine results, player evaluations and a list of coaches in attendance.

Player Evaluations

We saw A LOT of players from Lake Clifton High School, 17 total actually. One player who impressed from the Baltimore high school was Gary Jefferson. Gary is a 6’3 senior who is a very good scorer. Physically, he also has a body that appears ready to play at the next level right now. Meanwhile, classmate Elston Howard (Lake Clifton ’15) was showing how good of a defender he is. Elston is a very tough player and it shows on the defensive side of the ball. We also saw ninth grader Steven Parker, who showed some skill for a young player. Lake Clifton is hoping to get big things out of him for the next four years. At 5’11 as a freshman, Steven has a very bright future.

Other players who showed some strengths in their game include Jordan Camper, a 6’6 sophomore at Concord High School in Wilmington, Delaware, who impressed by dunking everything he could. Also, two players from Wise High School, James Brooks and Michael Speight, showed out on Saturday. Michael is a sophomore who should be a top player at Wise in the coming years. James is a shooter. He can shoot the lights out of the gym from all over. He is the definition of “hand down, man down.”

Expect Michael Speight to play a big role for Wise High School this season as a sophomore.

We  saw some familiar faces in Baltimore. Rodeo Thompson (Hershey ’15) and Jair Williams (Dulaney ’15) were both in attendance after being at Competitive Edge Sports last weekend for the Philadelphia Top 100. Rodeo has size at 6’6 and can be a force on the glass. He plays with a good motor and can make big plays for his team. Jair Williams is a player that we have seen three times already this fall. He’s another 6’6 body that is ready to play at the next level. Jair is very active and athletic; he possesses a playmaking ability that is quite impressive

Jair’s teammate at Dulaney, Isaiah Lamb (Dulaney ’15), was one of the most impressive players in the gym Saturday. Isaiah is a top prospect in the Baltimore area. He showed how lethal he can be in transition and he attacked the rim with authority. Isaiah is a crucial piece to Dulaney’s success in the upcoming season. Keep an eye on this guy.

Isaiah Lamb will be a top player to watch in the DMV area this winter.

As the calendar flips to October, the high school season starts to get closer and closer. From what we saw last weekend, there should be a lot of exciting basketball being played in the Delaware, Maryland and Virginia area this winter. The next Top 100 will be this Saturday in Neptune, NJ. There will be a Metro Academic Top 100 and a Metro Top 100. Still plenty of time to sign up!

Day 3 of Elite Camp as Told by Social Media

Day 3 of Elite Camp may have been the most exciting day yet, and with the two days we had before that, that’s saying something. We covered the entire day on all of our various social media accounts. Here’s our day summed up via social media.

Another strong showing at Early Bird this morning! Guys continue to want to get better.

Defense was a point of emphasis outside in stations. Guys worked on turning their man in the half court.

We saw great performances on the offensive and defensive side of the ball in our first set of games.

Did we mention how much talent Elite Camp has this week?

Hall of Fame Coach Bob Hurley stopped in after lunch to show the camp new ways to work on their skill.

Afternoon games started up and the gym was packed with college coaches….

…And there were plenty of guys who deserved their attention.

We were excited to hear a few guys got offers here at camp!

We learned just how atheltic Ibrahim Doumbia is…

And our night games finished off the day in exciting fashion.

And at last, a great day finally comes to an end.

There it is: a quick synopsis of our Day 3. So many guys turned heads and impressed today. If you want to know who impressed the most, check out our Day 3 Top Performers Comeback tomorrow and follow our live blog for coverage of Championship Friday!
