Greg Smith Looks to Lead Young Rutgers Prep Team

The Hoop Group Tip-Off Showcase tips off this weekend with a group of prestigious basketball programs

from the state of New Jersey with Rutgers Prep being one of them. They will need their senior guard

Greg Smith to step up for them this year because of the amount of players that graduated last year.

Smith is up for the challenge ahead of him this season.

“My goal is to help maintain Rutgers Prep as a strong basketball program in New Jersey, despite losing

four seniors from last year,” said Lewis. “Many people are already doubting us and saying we’re going to

have a down year, so it’s my job to lead our team to success and even better to prove those people

wrong.”

They are looking to prove others wrong by spending a lot of time in the gym as well as in the weight

room.

“My teammates and I have been in the gym all spring and summer working on our games and improving

our bodies,” he said. “This fall we spent a lot of time conditioning and emphasizing on improving our

defense. I’m looking forward to putting all the hard work into action.”

Smith believes that everyone needs to do what is in the best interest for the team in order for them to

have a good year.

“Everyone has to stay motivated and understand their role,” said the senior leader. “If everyone can

play hard and play their role to the best of their ability, I like our chances every time we get on the

floor.”

Rutgers Prep faces off against St. Benedict’s this coming Sunday for the Tip-Off Showcase. Smith is ready

for the event.

“We’re definitely looking forward to it,” he told HoopGroup.com.
