Long Branch Set to Host Showcase

Long Branch comes into Saturday’s match up with St. John Vianney atop the North B Division of the Shore conference. Defense has been the name of the game for Coach Stanley Mooney and his Green Wave squad. The team has kept most opponents in check while on their way to a 4-2 start. Long Branch is led by senior guard Jamar Foster, who seems to be pleased with his team’s success thus far.

“My goal for this season is to win the B-North title and the state championship” Foster said. While the state tournament is a long ways away, the Green Wave certainly seem to be legit contenders for the B-North title.

Like many athletes, Foster is a firm believer that offseason preparation is crucial to avoid a slow start. He made sure to get his shots up in the preseason, and football may have helped this dual athlete avoid coming into the season out of shape.

Foster has also accredited this early success to Long Branch’s emphasis on not only playing as a team, but BEING a team. ” The key to a successful season is team basketball. Focus in the classroom and on the court” he told HoopGroup.com.

Foster also told us that he and his teammates look forward to hosting this event every year. He claims that is provides them with a great opportunity to play against some of South Jersey’s best teams, year in and year out. I’m sure having home court advantage and playing in the primetime slot are also added bonuses.
