Neptune will be looking to score a big time win over Mater Dei this Saturday in Long Branch. The Scarlet Fliers will be looking to keep the momentum going, coming off of a win yesterday over Red Bank Catholic. Neptune is led by junior guard Jules Calhoun Jr. HoopGroup.com caught up with Calhoun to get a more detailed look at the Scarlet Fliers, and their star player, going into tomorrow’s match up.

The team and I are very excited and we are ready for the challenge” he said. This is certainly the competitive attitude you want to see going into a matchup that pins Neptune against the team that is currently ranked 6th in the sate according to NjHoops.com. But Calhoun’s drive to succeed extends far beyond tomorrow’s game.

My goal is to be still playing basketball while other teams are at home” he told us. A confident response that really shows his desire to succeed. Calhoun has also revealed that he applies this sort of dedication to his offseason efforts as well.

I prepared mentally and physically. From weight room to beach workouts to skills training and long film sessions seeing what I can work on and what moves I could make in certain situations” he said. It is quite obvious that Calhoun is no stranger to hard work.

He also told us that his favorite player to watch is Kyrie Irving, a Hoop Group alum. He said that is is inspired by Irving because he says the New Jersey has shown him that hard work can lead to great success. Irving is also an alum of St. Patrick’s in Elizabeth, a consistent New Jersey powerhouse.
