Caldwell, NJ– It’s the most wonderful time of the year! The Hoop Group Tip Off Showcase is taking place this weekend at Caldwell University. With it comes 9 extraordinary games between some of the top teams in the state of New Jersey. Let’s not waste any time, the liv blog is open!

Sunday, December 20th–

St. Joe’s holds on. Battle knocks down pressure free throws to seal it. What an ending. We would like to give a special thanks to all teams, players, coaches, fans and especiall Caldwell University for making this weekend so great! The live blog is closed!

Short stoppage and a nice hand for Tyus Battle as he scores his 1,000th career point. St. Joe’s leads Ramapo 38-31 after three.

Our last game of the weekend features two Division 1 commits as Tyus Battle (Syracuse) and Breein Tyree (Ole Miss) and the rest of the St. Joe’s-Metuchen Falcons take on the Raiders of Ramapo.

At the half, Roselle Catholic leads Newark East Side. It’s been strong guard play so far from both sides. Junior Leondre Washington leads RC in scoring, while Newark East Side is led by freshman Anas Amos. Freshman guard showing he can perform at the highest stage early in his high school career.

The match up of the day comes in our third game. Nationally ranked Roselle Catholic takes on Newark East Side. Roselle features numerous Division 1 players, including Naz Reid (ESPN Top 15 player), Andre Rafus (Rivals Top 75 player), Nate Pierre-Louis, and more. Expect a fast paced game as both teams get up and down in a hurry

Senior Sasha French with the block, but Hun falls to Linden 55-50 in a thriller. Tavon Jones finishes as the MVP for Linden with 15 points and some clutch free throws down the stretch.

Next up is Hun School versus Linden. The Tigers of Linden are typically one of the best public school teams in the state. Hun feauture Loyola bound Austin Harriott at the guard spot. Should be an exciting one.

St. Benedict’s tops Rutgers Prep in the first game of the day. David Beatty is game MVP with 20 points, 4 three pointers. Teammate James Scott added 18 points, most of which came in the second half. Jayson Oweh tallied 18 for the Argonauts of Rutgers Prep.

Rutgers Prep hanging in there with St. Benedict’s. Dan Schantz buries a three and cuts the deficit to nine at the half. 25-16 Gray Bees lead. David Beatty leads all scorers with 12 points, and showing great leadership.

Game 1 is set to get underway as St Benedict’s Prep will take on Rutgers Prep. Tough match up for Rutgers, as they have to handle George Washington commit Arnaldo Toro, and division 1 guard David Beatty. Let’s get it started!

Seton Hall Prep led this one wire to wire. A statement win to open up the season for the Pirates. And with that, Day 1 of the NJ Tip Off is in the books! Make sure to come back tomorrow for 4 more star studded affairs!

Our last game of the day will be Seton Hall Prep versus Columbia. This is a rematch of last year’s Tip Off, where Seton Hall prevailed in overtime. Leading the Pirates is Notre Dame bound guard Temple Gibbs. Columbia will look to senior Henry Voorhees to help lead the upset.

Blair is going to escape with the win. Controlled the game much of the 2nd half. Size of Deng Gak, Kodye Pugh and overall play of Anthony Mack was too much for Hudson Catholic. Gak had a big second half, will find his way to a lot of coach’s radars by the season’s end. He is awarded MVP with 13 points, almost all coming in the second half. Muhammad is MVP for Hudson, finishing with 22 points and 7 rebounds. Bright seasons on the horizon for both teams.

Up next is the game of the day: Blair Academy versus Hudson Catholic. A lot of young talent on the floor in this game, high major young talent. Seton Hall is on hand to watch Hudson sophomores Jahvon Quinerly and Luther Muhammad. Blair is led by Kodye Pugh, who has 23 scholarship offers including Florida, Maryland, Georgetown, Stanford and SMU. What a game this should be.

Brown commit Brandon Anderson leads Don Bosco over CBA. Pat Andree finishes with 19 of CBA’s 46 points. Junior Chris Paul had a huge second half to help the Ironmen hold off the Colts. Anderson and Andree were named MVPs.

Game 3 of the day will be a North vs Central Jersey Match up. Don Bosco takes on Christian Brothers Academy. Both teams feature Division 1 comits: Brandon Anderson (Brown) and Pat Andree (Lehigh). CBA will lean heavily on senior duo Andree and Jack McGuire.

Gill tops Teaneck by a final of 64-55. Adam Mitola named game MVP with 19 points and 10 rebounds. Jaquaye James had 25 for Teaneck.

Game 2 consists of a great game between 2 young teams. Gill St. Bernard’s is led by senior Adam Mitola. Freshman Jake Betlow is also a name to remember in this one. For Teaneck, Jaquaye James is one of the most fun players on the court with the ball in his hands. Expect to hear his name often.

Bergen Catholic tops Immaculate Conception 65-40. Taj Benning is named MVP with 19 points. Jalen Carey lead all scorers with 27, and was Immaculate Conception’s MVP. Up next: Gill St. Bernard’s and Teaneck.

At the half, BC leads Immaculate Conception 35-18. Gabriele Stefanini leads all scorers with 16 points. Taj Benning chippes in with 8 for BC. Offense tough to come by for Immaculate Conception, but Jalen Carey is doing his part, adding 12 points of his own for the Spartans.

Game one of the Tip Off includes the Crusaders of Bergen Catholic against the Spartans of Immaculate Conception. BC will look to junior Taj Benning to lead them. Benning is a Hoop Group Elite star, nad holds offers from VCU, NJIT and Boston U. Here we go!
