Baltimore Finest and DC Assault advance to Finals in 14U at Southern Jam Fest


Bmore’s Finest 59, Team Loaded (VA) 50

Bmore’s Finest advanced to the 14U Finals with a 59-50 win over Team Loaded (VA). Justice Kendall led the way with 20 points, while Kai Thompson added 15. Both James Smith Jr. and Taqwain Drummond scored a team-high 11 points for Team Loaded.

Team Loaded jumped out to a good start, finding themselves on the right end of a 7-2 run only two minutes into the game.

Bmore’s Finest fought back and was able to take a lead off of a Thompson three-pointer that gave his team a 19-18 lead. Smith Jr. and Team Loaded quickly responded with a contested layup that retook the lead.

The 14U squad from Baltimore started to gain momentum after taking the lead and, after going back-and-forth for another minute, took a 29-24 lead into the half.

The momentum carried into the second half, as Bmore’s Finest pounced early and led off with a 7-2 run of their own and eventually pushed their lead to double digits.

Team Loaded fought back and whittled the Bmore’s Finest lead to six points with less than four minutes to play and a Drummond and-one pushed it to five points with two minutes left, but a Travis Ingram and-one on the other end with 49 seconds left sealed the win for Bmore’s Finest.

DC Assault 57, BWSL Kelley 45

DC Assault is on its way to the championship game following a 57-45 win over BWSL Kelley. Assault had three different players score in double-digits, with Olexi Ford, Chris Lykes and Jamie Moutrie scoring 16, 15 and 10 points, respectively. BWSL was paced by Mastadi Pitt’s 18 points, which included four three-pointers, and Carey Jackson’s 10.

The semifinal matchup between DC Assault and BWSL went back-and-forth in the first half, but DC Assault used a mini 6-0 spurt to create some separation and take a 19-13 lead in the first half.

That margin increased to double-digits as the first half went along, as DC Assault sped out to a 28-17 lead with under four minutes left in the first. The 14U squad continued to push and increase their lead, holding a 35-22 halftime lead.

BWSL started to make a dent in the deficit at the start of the second half, scoring five straight points to bring DC Assault’s lead down to single digits. But, after the small spurt, DC Assault regained their composure to retake a commanding 43-29 lead with 10 minutes to play.

BSWL went on a 10-2 run to bring DC Assault’s lead back down to six points, but DC Assault once again regrouped and took a 13-point lead late in the game.
