The championship game in the 15u bracket is set at the Hoop Group Southern Jam Fest as DC Assault will take on BWSL Williams (VA) will at 2 p.m. at the Boo Williams Sportsplex.

DC Assault earned their spot in the title game with a gritty 62-61 win over Team Takeover (DC).

The game was highlighted by runs, and as is typically the case, the team with the last run wins.

In the first half DC Assault opened a 39-30 and had increased that to a 10-point lead early in the second half, but as is the case in a game between teams that are very familiar with each other, Team Takeover threw a punch.

Trailing 45-43 with 11:22 to go in the game Takeover capped an 8-2 with a 3-pointer from Cam Robinson to open up a 51-47 lead. Team Takeover stayed in front for the next seven minutes until DC’s Alani Moore hit a layup with 2:35 to go to put DC back in front 60-59.

Forty seconds later Sam Green’s 12-foot jumper put DC in front 62-59.

Over the next 1:55 seconds DC’s defense tightened to limit Takeover’s looks at the basket but, at the same time, they struggled, not scoring another basket the rest of the way.

“We just kept our heads in the game,” said Green, who finished with 12 points. “I feel we came together as a team down the stretch.”

In addition to Green’s 12 points, Moore, whose layup put DC ahead for good, finished with eight points while Anthony Cowan, who netted 17 in DC’s Elite Eight win, matched Green’s 12.

“(Cowan) is a great point guard,” Green said. “(Cowan) and Alani (Moore) really help to keep control of the team on the floor.”

Ako Adams led DC Assault with 14 points.

BWSL Williams (VA) 70 Sports U Izod (NJ) 59

BWSL’s 70-59 semifinal win over Sports U Izod (NJ) wasn’t as tense

Quickly opening up a 17-4 lead out of the gate, BWSL took a 37-15 lead into the half on the strength of their quickness and tenacious defense.

The second half was more of the same.

BWSL’s suffocating defense and their ability to collapse on the ball never really allowed Sports U to gain any offensive momentum.

Sports U pulled to within nine with 4:30 to go in the game but a big steal by Edrice “Bam Bam” Adebayo was quickly converted to a layup and BWSL’s lead was back up to 11 at 60-49.
