10:00 PM- In the last game of the day it was a familiar away game with in-state rivals Jersey Elite v Sports U. This game went to the very end and Sports U out lasted Jersey Elite by 5. 53-48. Jared Nickens was clutch in the final minutes coming off a baseline screen nailing a three pointer in the corner and getting the emphatic dunk in traffic to seal the victory. —@DaveKrupinski

9:33 PM- DC Assault’s Melo Trimble scored 18 points in a 59-46 win over BWSL Woods (VA) in a 17u Sweet 16 matchup. Boo Williams (VA) defeated Virginia Elite Gadson 58-51 and will face DC Assault in the Elite 8. —@pfebbraro

9:08 PM- Thon Maker scored 14 points as Boo Williams’ (VA) 17u team came away with a 58-51 victory over Virginia Elite Gadson to advance to the Elite 8. —@pfebbraro

8:18 PM- Crusader Nation (MD) cruises on to the Elite 8 with a 72-59 win over Squires Richmond (VA). 2014 guard Marquise Reed scored a game-high 21 points, included 11 free throws, and 2014 forward Trevor Wesco added 13. Squires Richmond forward Devin Robinson contributed a team-high 19 points. —@AndrewKoob

7:09 PM- Garner Road (NC) punched a ticket to the 17u Elite 8 with a 61-44 win over Team Loaded Ward (VA). Cameron Gottfried scored 16 points and grabbed six rebounds in the win. —@pfebbraro

6:56 PM- At the halfway point of the Team Loaded NC – Team Philly Sweet 16 matchup with Loaded NC leading 31-23. Loaded NC has pretty much cruised into the Sweet 16, but this looks like it’ll be a tough matchup right on through to the second half. —@AndrewKoob

6:31 PM- Tyrek Coger’s basket with 3.4 seconds to play was the difference in the Carolina Raptors (NC) 37-35 win over Team Takeover Orange in the 17u bracket. Carolina moves on to the Elite 8. —@pfebbraro

6:00 PM- At the half the Carolina raptors lead Team Takeover Orange 16-14. Tyrek Coger has six points for the Raptors while Team Takeover’s Darian Bryant has four. —@pfebbraro

5:43 PM- 17U Sweet 16 games are now tipping off here at Boo Williams. The sixteen teams remaining are all deep and filled with Division I talent. Championship Sunday is shaping up to be a very good one here at Southern Jam Fest. The state of Virginia continues to represent well on home turf, while teams from New Jersey, North Carolina, Maryland, and D.C. round out the Sweet 16. 5:01 PM- A number of prep schools are in attendance to get one final look at 2013 prospects. One unsigned senior who is turning heads right now is 6-foot-2 point guard Jordan Talley with East Coast Fusion Dalton.  Talley can shoot from mid-range, has a quick burst and is a really savvy passer with a hard-nosed drive and kick game. Look for him in today’s top performers article to be posted tonight.  —@Edgar_Walker

4:18 PM-  In a nail-biter, VA Assault held on to defeat Team Loaded VA 66-62 and claim a spot in the 17u Sweet 16. With one second remaining Tyler Thompson (5-9/Cesar Chavez (DC)/2014) stepped to the free throw line and sank two to ice the win. Thompson finished with 14 points while VA Assault was led by Clint Robinson’s (6-8/Charles Flowers (MD)/2014) 20 points.

Joining VA Assault in the Sweet 16 will be Boo Williams (VA), which defeated the Greensboro Warriors (NC) 73-48, and Sports U Izod (NJ), which defeated Ahoops Pump & Run (PA) 71-41. —@pfebbraro

3:40PM- The state of Virginia is well represented at Southern Jam Fest. Virginia Elite defeated DC Assault Blue and Boo Williams defeated Greensboro Warriors earlier in the day meanwhile VA Assault and Team Loaded VA are deadlocked at 47-47 with 7 minutes left in the 2nd half. We’re going to check later in the day to see what state still has the most teams remaining. —@DaveKrupinski

2:16 PM- Squires Richmond (VA) joined those advancing to the 17u Sweet 16 with a convincing 86-70 win over Team Sizzle (MD). Devin Robinson (6-8/Christchurch (VA)/2014) scored 22 points and Josh Brown (6-4/Trinity (VA)/2015) added 16 to lead the Squires. —@pfebbraro

2:09 PM- DC Assault guard Melo Trimble has impressed in both the Pitt and Philly Jam Fests and is looking to keep track here in Virginia. The Maryland-bound guard continues to make smart decisions and contribute in any and every aspect of the game. —@AndrewKoob

1:24 PM- Richmond Squires wing Devin Robinson (6-7/Christ Church (Va.)/2014) has been blowing up this spring at Hoop Group events. After firmly placing himself on the Top 50 radar nationally at Pitt Jam Fest, Robinson has continued to cement his status here at Southern Jam Fest today. Against an athletic Team Sizzle squad, Robinson scored 19 points in the first half, including two three pointers and a 7-of-8 mark from the foul line. At 6-foot-7 with the ability to do just about everything on the floor, Robinson is quickly vaulting himself into the ranks of the elite. —@Edgar_Walker

12:43 PM- Team Loaded Ward (VA) rolled over SC Raptors Elite 76-57 to move into the Sweet 16 in the 17u. Team Loaded’s Stavian Allen (6-8/Christian Faith Center (NC)/2014) scored only eight points but had a couple thunderous one-handed dunks which had those in attendance taking notice. —@pfebbraro

12:05 PM- Team Loaded NC won the Philly Jam Fest three weeks ago and are back at it three weeks later here at Southern Jam Fest. VCU commit Jonathan Williams plays a solid point guard for the talented squad. They look like a solid contender for another 17U championship this weekend.

11:35 AM- Jalen Barnes (6-2/Christian Faith, N.C./2013) scored 17 points as the Carolina Raptors (NC) topped East Coast Fusion Dalton (Va.) 75-67 to punch a ticket to the 17u Sweet 16. Carolina will face Team Takeover Orange at 5:20 p.m. —@pfebbraro

11:21 AM- Team Philly 16U finally put the mercy rule into effect, beating Metroball DC 87-31. 2015 center Michael Watkins scored a game-high 23 points, with 2015 guard Sean Lloyd not far behind with a 20-point performance. —@AndrewKoob

11:16 AM- Team Takeover Orange (DC) advanced to the 17u bracket Sweet 16 with a 56-44 win over Baltimore Supreme. Darian Bryant (6-5/St. Johns College HS, D.C./2014) scored 15 to lead Team Takeover. —@pfebbraro

10:24 AM- Team Philly 16u team is coasting to a victory right now against Metroball (DC). They’re up 40-7 with just under five minutes to play in the first half. 2015 forward Sean Lloyd has been a force, drawing two and-ones and dominating the opposition. —@AndrewKoob

10:18 AM- After trailing by 12 points with 9 minutes left in the 2nd half, SportsU came back to defeat Nitro USA (Oh.) 55-41 in first round action in the 17u bracket. SportsU was led by Wade Baldwin (6-4/St. Joe’s Metuchen/2014) who scored 15 points and Marques Townes (6-3/St. Joe’s Metuchen/2014) contributed 7 points, Sports U Izod (NJ) defeated . —@pfebbraro

9:51 AM- Team Jersey Elite 17U is winning with ease right now in their opener against Southern Tier, led by 2014 guard Amir Bell (East Brunswick HS). A 6-foot-4 guard with great length and a nice handle, Bell has been making plays consistently on both ends. Jersey Elite is a dark horse team to watch in the 17U division. —@Edgar_Walker
