Championship Recap

16U Final: New Heights NYC vs. Team Final

Team Final, playing without Rondae Jefferson and Austin Colbert, was little match for Jordan Washington, Terrance Samuels and New Heights.

Aided by swarming defense and an ability to get into the lane and finish, New Heights went up early and never looked back, capturing the 16U title.

Johnnie Davis continued what he started at Hoop Group Elite Session 1, playing tough down low for Team Final, but it wasn’t enough and they fall.

17U Final: Team Philly Basketball vs. Philly’s Finest

In the Greater Philadelphia area, featuring two Philly teams, this championship match-up could be more of a turf war. No play was more telling of that than, midway through the 4th quarter, Team Philly point guard Maurice Watson went up for a fastbreak layup, only to be fouled hard by Philly’s Finest forward Amile Jefferson, sending Watson to the floor.

The back-and-forth game featured a number of lead changes and was tied at 53 with five minutes to go. But, down the stretch, Team Philly took control, behind Watson and power forward Brandon Taylor, to win the 17U championship.
