Tonight marked the return and the new beginning with the Hoop Group Reading Tip-Off High School Showcase. Four high schools beginning their seasons with challenging match ups which aired live on CN8 TV.

The city of Reading didn’t disappoint as lines formed outside of the Bollman Center before the doors even opened.

In the opening game Strawberry Mansion from Philadelphia tipped off against local Berks Catholic.

Berks jumped out to an early 12-2 lead as Donovan Jack capped off the 8-0 run with a thunderous dunk before Strawberry Mansion called a timeout.

Strawberry settled down soon after cutting the deficit to as little as 6 points in the first half.

Berks came out in the 2nd half and never looked back. Marquise Marshall who had a game high 21 points was the difference maker in the game. He was named the MVP of the game.

In the second game Reading High School played Philadelphia power house St. John Neumann-Goretti.

Before the game Neumann-Goretti head coach Carl Arrigale was honored before the game for achieving his 300th win last week.

The Reading Red Knights came out exchanging baskets with Neumann-Goretti feeding off the energy of the home crowd. It wasn’t long before Neumann-Gorretti’s depth wore down the attack of the Red Knights. Neumann uses a 9-10 man rotation with constant pressure that just wears down their opponents.

Johnny Davis took home the MVP hardware for the 2nd straight year.
