Game Recaps: NJ Shoreshots, Middlesex Magic and DC Blue Devils

Shoreshots Coast Through First Game

Coach Matt Pooley led his squad to an easy first round victory over their opponent. The Shoreshots played phenomenal defense, holding their opponents to just 18 points. There was no shortage of offense either. Junior Gabe Stefanini led the charge with 16 points, Darien Jenkins and Tyler Jones also helped the cause, scoring 14 and 12 respectively. The Shoreshots have a plethora of talent, athleticism and size, so it should be interesting to see how they will perform going forward.

Middlesex Magic Take down New England Playmakers

The top-seeded Magic found themselves in a tightly contested ball game after 16 minutes of play. Middlesex carried a 5 point lead into halftime, thanks to a tremendous shooting performance from Matt Donahue. Donahue knocked down four threes in the first 10 minutes before taking a rest, he would finish with 24. As a team, the Magic shot well from beyond they arc. They also dominated the offensive glass, which led to a lot of second chance buckets. The Playmakers were able to hang in with a very talented Magic squad. Billy Arseneault was a tremendous floor general for New England, but in the end the Magic were able to pull away. Middlesex will look to heat up in their second game tonight at 8:20.

DC Blue Devils Win Opener

Much like the Middlesex Magic, the DC Blue Devils (New Hampshire) were locked in a close game in the first half. DC trailed the NY Lightning 37-35 at the half. There was plenty of offense to go around, but the Lightning simply could not keep pace with the Blue Devils. Along with their potent offense, DC’s defense was able to bunker down and force a lot of turnovers in the second half. Like many teams, DC was able to prevail thanks to their advantage in the size department. The Blue Devils were simply bigger, faster and stronger than their opponents which allowed them to recover from their slow start. Jose Lara led the team in scoring with 17, Geo Baker also contributed, scoring 16. DC will look to keep the momentum rolling, as they will be in action in tonight’s Sweet Sixteen.
