St. John Vianney’s 2nd Half Comeback Gives Point Boro 1st Loss

RUMSON- Before the season started this match up was billed to be the headline game of the season for the Shore Conference. It lost a bit of it’s luster when St. John Vianney lost senior leader Kat Egan to a torn ACL.

Point Boro came into the game with 9-0 record with a #1 ranking in the Shore Conference next to their name but these games aren’t played on paper.

The Lancers looked hopeful early on with Katie Beriont knocking down the first basket of the game but Point Boro quickly took control of the game taking a six point lead into the locker room at halftime.

However the Panthers continued to struggle shooting from the perimeter and Lancers, led by Lyndsay Rowe scoring 18 points, scored a number of transition buckets.

“Lyndsay Rowe really stepped up and played like a senior especially in that 4th quarter,” said coach Dawn Karpell after the game.

However it wasn’t only Rowe’s offense that sparked the comeback but her defensive effort on Kelly Hughes. Hughes was held to 16 points on 6-19 shooting.

“It’s a huge win for us. We needed that.” said Rowe about beating #1 Point Boro. “It might put us up in the rankings but to us that is just a confidence booster.”

Lancers also got contributions from Jacklyn Gallagher scoring 11 points.

Point Boro’s player of the game was Lauren Hughes who scored 15 points.
