DJ Mitchell: Elite 2 Recap

DJ Mitchell

Two weeks ago, DJ Mitchell heard his name called at the awards ceremony for Session Two of Hoop Group Elite Camp. The award was a selection to the Underclassmen Game, a game that featured some of the top rising sophomores and juniors in the country. The selection capped off a great week of play for DJ, and added to what was a very good July on the court.

DJ plays AAU for the DC Thunder, a well-respected team nationally. He felt his team grew a lot of the July period, and that he is excited for the future with his team. “We went out to Vegas and had strong finish to summer. From where we started to where we ended, we got a lot better as a team.” he told me in a phone interview.

In between AAU tournaments, Mitchell found himself in Reading, Pennsylvania for Hoop Group Elite Camp. In what was one of the most loaded camps in recent history, he spoke very highly of his experience, pointing out the great competition and valuable instruction he learned in his four days in Reading.

“My head coach, he taught me things about defense that I didn’t know. He showed me things that I can take into my individual work outs to get better.”

Currently, DJ Mitchell is taking a break, but not for long. After a weeks rest to rejuvenate his body, DJ plans to be in the gym all of August working on his game. “I wanted to give my body time to recover and rest up. But then I’m going to be in the gym every day, twice a day.” Mitchell also says he plans to be in the weight room three times a week. The smooth guard said his ball handling will be a major focus in the upcoming month.

UNC Greensboro is the only school to offer DJ, but if he continues to work on the court as hard as he does, he’s going to start making some noise in DC. And when that happens, the high major schools will be all over him.
