2017 HOOP GROUP SHORE CONFERENCE ALL FRESHMAN TEAM

2017 Hoop Group All-Freshman Team

Today we announce THE HOOP GROUP 2017 ALL FRESHMAN TEAM. This group represents those Freshman who had the biggest impact on there teams this season. Every past member of THE HOOP GROUP ALL FRESHMAN 1st TEAM has moved on to Dvision 1 basketball after there high school career, with the exception of one. This group will try and continue this tradition.

I would like to be very clear. I understand the power of this list and what it represents. I fully understand the power of my words.  I have not seen every Freshman this year, so to the players I missed, use this as fuel towards your journey to sucess.

THE HOOP IS PROUD TO INTRODUCE THE 2017 ALL FRESHMAN TEAM

THE TEAM….

FRESHMAN OF THE YEAR MANCHESTER’S KEMARI REYNOLDS

KEMARI REYNOLDS- MANCHESTER HIGH SCHOOL-5’7″- POINT GUARD

THE 2017 Freshman of The Year..https://hoopgroup.com/headquarters-blog/uncategorized/kermari-reynolds-2017-hoop-group-shore-conference-freshman-of-the-year/

PAIGE SLAVEN-DONOVAN CATHOLIC-5’6″- POINT GUARD

She more than any other freshman has seen her stock rise. This past season, she displayed skill sets that surprised everyone. Her ability to break defenders down off the dribble and FIND shooters was  exceptional all season. Blessed with next level speed and quickness, she was one of the best on ball defenders in the Shore. She also had a flare for the big moment, like in Donovan Catholic’s big win of rival Pt. Boro. It was Slaven who stole the ball and scored with time running out in Donovan Catholic’s 41-40 big win. Her ability to get teammates involved was the key to Donovan Catholic being B SOUTH co-Camps. Coach Jerry Burno gave the keys to his star Freshman this year and she delivered. Like in her 16 point, 8 rebound, 4 assists and 4 steal game vs Southern Reg. While her impact cannot be measured by stats this baby averaged 8 points…3.5 assist and 2 steals a game this year. Paige Slaven will be one of the Top Point Guards in the Shore for years to come. She also will be in high demand by college coaches.

KAYLA RICHARDSON-DONOVAN CATHOLIC-6’0″-SWING

Many believe she is the most talented Freshman in the Shore Conference. She will be a future mega star. She has a college ready body and real game to go along with it. She was a nightmare match up for just about everyone. She is the classic offensive triple threat. She shoots three’s, gets to the rim and rebounds in traffic. This year she also showed she was ready for Prime time. In Middletown South’s first game against Manasquan, it was she who put the team on her back to try and make the game competitive . In two games against the powerhouse, she averaged 11 points and 5 rebounds. She showed a versatility that is rare for any player more less a freshman. Dispite her size, she had the ability to play every postion for Coach Brennan. She is already an elite passer and has a next level IQ. Her box scores showed this, as she did a little of everything each night. Richardson will be one of the most recruited players in New Jersey one day. This season, she more than lived to the expectations. No Freshman played against better competition all season. Making her accomplishments even more impressive.

MAKAYLA ANDREWS-NEPTUNE HIGH SCHOOL-5’11”- WING

Perhaps no name on this list was more of a surprise, than Makayla Andrews. She did not appear on any pre-season list. She also was not very known on the AAU Circuit by college coaches or fans for that matter. Much like Lucy Thomas 3 years ago, this unknown’s life is about to change. She is a future D1 lock. Her high school debut started out, with a show stopping preformance vs Marlboro. She 8 points/ 9 rebounds, which included back breaking buckets late, to seal the victory for Neptune . All season John Brown counted heavily on his future superstar. She logged big  minutes all season and  delivered time and time again. She was a model of  consistency all year. John Brown could pencil his freshman in for 8-15 points, just about every night. He also could count on 5-7 rebounds and tough aggressive defense in the style of THE NEPTUNE TRADITION. Makayla Andrews quickness and ability to get to the offensive glass is a rare talent. But she also has a nice shooting touch which set it all up. NEPTUNE simply would have been in deep trouble and certainly not #12 in the state, if this future superstar had not come around. Her mailbox will be stuffed with letters, now that the cat is officially out the bag.

KATE LETURGEZ- POINT BORO HIGH SCHOOL- 5’9″- SWING

Kate Leturgez plays on one of if not the best 2020 AAU team in New Jersey. It’s why her freshman season has been a total shock to all. Nobody saw this coming. Leturgez won multiple FRESHMAN OF THE WEEK AWARDS. But it was some of her monster preformances that surprised everyone. There were nights, she simply was un-stoppable and the numbers she put up were breath taking for any player in any grade. We are talking 10 double/doubles on the season. Multiple 20 point scoring games and flat out carrying her talented team at times. Her toughest and shocking season, may land her not just on the ALL FRESHMAN TEAM but the ALL OCEAN TEAM as well. The Star Ledger named her as one of the Top Freshman in New Jersey. Kate Leturgez, did make any pre -season ALL FRESHMAN list this year. There is no question she made a real case for FRESHMAN OF THE YEAR. No Freshman since Lucy Thomas has made such a shocking unexpected debut.  Now Leturgez will have college coaches in her life. She also now has a chance to be one of the best in Pt. Boro history. She averaged just under 10 points and six rebounds a game in her stellar freshman debut.
