Best Girls Conference In America

The first week of scrimmages will wrap up this weekend and the count down to the season will begin. It’s been a while since we have gone into a season without a clear cut favorite. There are no super teams like the great Neptune teams of Richardson and Davis’ years. What we have this year is a conference loaded with talented seniors leading the way and returning star underclassmen.  How this will all shake out in the end is anyone’s guess. But who would ever believe a baby faced head coach would lead Manasquan to their 2nd SCT title in 3 years at the start of the season? Nobody saw Joe Whalen’s St. Rose team becoming not only one of the best teams in the Shore, but also in the state. Did anyone predict that  Tom Brennan’s Middletown South team would knock off Neptune and win it’s first state title since 1979? Yes we had a lot of surprises last year.  How about Stella Clark living up to the hype and winning Freshman of the Year? What about the Shot? You know the one by Courtney Hagaman made to put the game in overtime in Squan’s win over SJV in the SCT semi- final. Last year we saw some historic moments as Sir George Sourlis became the first coach, boys or girls, in the shore to win 600 games. There were some sad moments such as the passing of Hall of Fame Coach, Kathy Snyder.  But with that came the positive news of Caitlin Carroll coming back from Heart Surgery and Tina LeBron making a full recovery from knee surgery and ready to have a big year. There is no question last season was a year to remember, and  no question this season will produce even more exciting moments. Can you really replace great kids like Dana Carbone or Grace Fallon? Well, it’s going to be hard, but it’s the shore and it seems that great kids just come around every year….let’s hope this season is just as exciting and fun…because one thing is clear…the future is in good hands!
