Elite 1 Final Day Recap

Another week of high-octane, highlight-filled basketball has come to an end at Alrbight College, as elite 1 wrapped up today with the final games, including those of the championship and all-star variety.

Several players finished their weeks at camp strong, including Josip Vrankic (Father John Redmond ’17) who picked up his second offer of the week from San Diego late Thursday night.

However, Vrankic wasn’t voted the most outstanding player for this week’s NBA East Division; the award went to Elijah Clarance (St. Maria Goretti ’17).

Other MOP’s from the camp included Robert Young (Abington ’17) from the NBA West, and Charlie Weber (Huntingtown ’19) from the NCAA division.

After the conclusion of our awards ceremony, where tons of players were recognized for their standout performances (you can see who won awards on our twitter), the all-star games took place, showcasing the best of the best from Elite 1.

Our three standouts from the talent-filled match-ups included the following:

Standout 1: Elijah Olaniyi (East Side ’17) – MVP the 6-foot-5 wing from New Jersey capped off a strong week with a productive performance in the NBA East Top 20 All-Star Game. Olaniyi demonstrated the ability to score at all three levels. He has the chance to be a very solid defender at the next level given his length in conjunction with his instincts. As a result of his solid play on both ends of the court, Olaniyi was named Most Valuable Player of the All-Star Game.

Standout 2: Scott Hitchon (Balboa City School ’17) Canada was well-represented at Elite 1. Scott Hitchon, who hails from Ontario, was among the most impressive post players throughout camp. The strong, 6-foot-8 big man has great footwork on the low block to go along with a soft touch around the rim. Hitchon consistently seeks and finishes through contact in the paint. He put a couple of defenders on a poster throughout the week, and capped it off with another one in the All-Star Game.

Standout 3: A.J Wilson (Elev8 Sports ’17) continued his run of highlight-reel plays this week with a two-handed jam in the opening quarter of play, and didn’t stop there. Wilson flashed his athleticism in many different ways during his all-star game, putting an impressive end to his week of camp with multiple top-notch dunks and finishes around the rim. Wilson played tight defense to boot!

It’s been a great week here at Albright, with tons of extremely gifted players proving themselves to dozens of college coaches and scouts, and we’re looking forward to more of the same next week at our Elite Camp session 2!
