JENNA PAUL OF TRN IS THE 2017 UP AND COMING PLAYER

One of the hardest things to do in basketball, is to project a players future. College coaches get paid a lot of money to project a players potential. It is very easy to see the ability of Kimi Evans. It is easy to see the talent of babies like Kemari Reynolds. This is not where coaches earn their money. Anyone with a brain knows these are special talents. It’s when a coach steals a great player who goes on to be one of the best players in their conference, is how a recruiter earns their stripes .  Its when a school doesn’t listen to the critics and signs a player, who becomes one of the best players in the schools history, is how a recruiter becomes a star.  It’s when a BCS school sneaks in town and STEALS ONE OF THE TOP 5 PLAYERS IN THE STATE, like Jess Louro, when other schools including smaller ones are still guessing and not sure. This is how and why successful college  programs win big….They catch players on their way up…NOT WHEN THEIR AT THE TOP.

THE 2017 HOOP GROUP UP AND COMING PLAYER  may come as a surprise to some. This award traditionally  has gone to a player, who is under the radar. Most years this award goes to a player doing work in the shadows. Last years winner Jess Broad is now a full blown star. The winners of this award in the past have blown up and gone onto great success. This year’s winner is not a stranger to shore fans or college coaches. But her stock this year has risen even more and it leads me to believe she is on her way to becoming one of the best players in NEW JERSEY….JENNA PAUL IS THIS YEARS HOOP GROUP UP AND COMING PLAYER AWARD WINNER.

JENNA PAUL is no stranger to anyone in the Shore Conference. She was on the 2016 ALL FRESHMAN TEAM. She is one of the best sophomores in the state. She already is being recruited by D1 schools. So you may be asking why are we calling her an UP AND COMING PLAYER. Its because some players take their games to an entire new level. This is what Jenna Paul has done this year. Last year’s freshman class was a special one. Many believed it was one of the best freshman classes ever. Many were waiting for that special freshman class from a year ago to become full blown stars. But two of those babies have battled injuries all season and the other transferred and was forced to come off the bench. But it  was Jenna Paul, last seasons the 5th wheel on that ALL FRESHMAN TEAM that was the one who took that big step forward . She was not suppose to be the one, who would become a full blown star. But a year later, it is she that put up a monster season. It is she that of that talented group who had the breakout season.

PAUL HAS NOT RESTED LAURELS…

This season TOMS RIVER NORTH had to overcome the loss of their Freshman Star from a year ago, Brielle Bisagno. Many believe that this season TRN could make another jump this season, most believe they could be a Top 10 team in the shore. But with the injury, to Bisagno many believed TRN would have to wait a year for that jump.  But Jenna Paul took a step that nobody believed was possible and TRN had a season to remember. This year TRN was ranked as high as 10th in the state. They also made it to the state sectional final and won the WOBM and Jenna Paul had much to do with all of this. There was no sophomore slump for Jenna Paul, it was more like a Super Sophomore season.

This year, Jenna Paul raised her stats in every single category. This season her scoring increased from 13 points a game to 16.8 points a game. Her rebounding stats went from 5 a game to 8 a night. But that is not all, she also went from 2 three points made in a season. To a legit three point weapon. This season she has had 25 three’s. She was no stranger to big shots, her coast to coast basket in the sectional finals sent TRN into the CJ4 finals. All this is the reason, I believe JENNA PAUL is on her way to become an elite player in the state. She has risen her game to new heights and she has not let past success spoil her. Here is a list of her accomplishments this year….

THE JENNA PAUL HIGHLIGHTS

*She was named HOOP GROUP PLAYER OF THE WEEK.

*She had nine games with over 20 points…including a season high 29 points

*She scored in double figures in every game except 3

*She was on the WOBM ALL TOURNAMENT TEAM

*She had 7 Double/Doubles

When JENNA PAUL  chose an AAU TEAM it was only one thing she was concerned with….DEVELOPMENT. It the reason she decided to play for Mary Beth Chambers of the New Jersey Elite. It was Chambers’ track record for developing All Conference players, Player of the Years and Captains at the next year that attracted her to the team….NOT EGO.

The UP AND COMING AWARD is for those players moving in the right direction. Jenna Paul has been moving in the right direction for years now. She has shown that even kids with a reputation can do more. She did not rest on her laurels from a year ago and it has paid off.   Her focus and understanding of what’s important for a young player make her future seem a forgone conclusion …it’s why we are proud to name JENNA PAUL AS THE 2017 UP AND COMING PLAYER.

The ALL UP AND COMING TEAM  is really a peak at kids with a low profile who will become great players…Some previous UP  AND COMING AWARD WINNERS  have included…Kate Egan now at Seton Hall, Hannah Scanlon, Bryant University, Dezzy Allen, NJIT, Josie Larkins, Vermont, Katie Sire, Montclair University.

DID YOU KNOW? The 2012 ALL UP AND COMING TEAMS HAD 8  FUTURE D1  PLAYERS!

INTRODUCTING THE 2017 HOOP GROUP ALL UP AND COMING TEAM

BRIDGET ANDREE-JUNIOR- TRINTY HALL- 6’0″-SWING

She spent a year in the shadows at Trinity Hall. But make no mistake this young lady has D1 written all over her. I believe this summer, she will become in full demand. Lost in the shadows was the year Andree had. Her numbers may be dismissed because she didn’t play in a power division. This my friends is a mistake. She averaged a 17.1 points a game and 9.8 rebounds…she also had 10 double/doubles.

LAUREN LITHGOW-SOPHMORE ST. ROSE- 5’10”- COMBO GUARD

She has been in the wings for 2 years. Fasten your seat beats folks. She will be a ALL SHORE PLAYER NEXT SEASON. She is blessed with speed, quickness and raw ability. She is a total gym rat and a summer of basketball will get her back on track. This is a future Division one lock.  She will turn heads next season. A rare talent is ready to break out.

SARA KARPELL-JUNIOR-SJV-5’7″-COMBO GUARD

This is a reason, she has offers on the table from D1 schools already. She has seen the best competition there is to see. Already an elite defender. But next year watch what happens. She will become one of the best combo guards in all of New Jersey. She is a gym rat and more importantly a player who can be coached hard.

SARA FURCH-JUNIOR- ST.JOHN VIANNEY-6’1″- FOWARD

Most have no idea of the package she brings to the table. She can play the 3 spot or the post. She has a lighting quick first step. She is a D1 lock and everyone is about to find out this summer. No player is going to catch the eye of coaches more this summer and her is why. She is nightmare match up due to her ability to post up or step away from the basket. She has spent 3 years playing against some of the best post players in New Jersey.

MIKAELA McGARVEY- JUNIOR-RUMSON-5’10”-GUARD

She is the wild card on this list. If she gets in the gym against Top Competition, I believe D1 schools will come calling. She is a deadly shooter, who is a underrated athlete. She showed flashes last year, but her injury in her sophomore year, had her catching up all season. I believe with a full year of high school basketball under her belt, she will shine. McGarvey has stepped up her level of AAU competition moving to the Jersey Shore Elite Chambers team. Look for her to blow in the coming months.
