SJV WINS ANOTHER TITLE

Remember when kids played two and even three sports? It was a time where earning a letter and putting it on your jacket meant something in a town. In many schools kids were forced to play more than one sport. When I was in high school I had to play soccer. It was a good thing because I had a chance to meet a new circle of friends and it was great for school spirit. Well yesterday the SJV girl’s Volleyball team won there 2nd straight Shore title and they got a little help from a few players from the best girls basketball team in New Jersey!

I don’t know much about Volleyball, I watch it during the Olympics and it always great competition. It’s a game that has some of the same qualities as basketball. When Megan Furch told me Sunday she was  playing for the Shore Conference title on Monday, I really was hoping to go watch her play. I really wanted to go watch because Kimi Evan and Courtney Dobrzynski are on the team as well. I thought it was cool that such talented basketball players would be chasing a title in another sport. I mean all these young ladies are going to play hoops in college. But the same approach they have towards basketball seems to apply to volleyball.

Senior Gaby Merced knows a thing or two about winning CHAMPIONSHIPS

I don’t know Dani Jankauakas of SJV but I know this…she understands winning. She talks about the things all  winners talk about. She calls her team “a family”, and she talks about “never giving up”. Maybe it’s the reason SJV came from behind to win their 2nd shore title in a row. I don’t know Gaby Merced from a hole in the wall. But I do know this…she is clearly a leader because she talks about how “she has her teammates back and they have her back”. I guess that explains why she was the 2014 Shore Volleyball player of the year. It also may explain why she showed up big in yesterday’s title game. She is a senior and clearly wanted to leave her mark….guess what? SHE DID and maybe she may have sent a message to 3 basketball players trying to win SJV’s first Shore title in recent years.

Kimi Evans is no stranger to basketball, her superstar sister Christa Evans (Rutgers) played volleyball at Jackson Memorial. It was a great way to stay ready for the basketball season and also hang with some people not totally connected to basketball. In a way, it was a gave her a breather away from basketball. Her younger sister Kimi who is a TOP 50 player in the junior class has followed in her big sisters footsteps. It’s looks like she made a wise decision!

One Shore Title down..one to go!

Megan Furch is one day going to make a college basketball coach look very smart. I really don’t believe there is a nicer kid playing any sport. Nobody loves their school and teammates more…NOBODY!. She talks about volleyball with same passion she does about hoops and her school…She and her teammates have a lot to be proud of…now as a senior she has a chance to win two Shore titles in difference sports this year…how nice would that be?

Courtney Dobrzynski is a future D1 basketball and has offers already. But this volleyball experience no question is something she enjoying doing. All the little things she does on the volleyball court will help her come basketball season. She is not the star of the volleyball but she is very much proud to be part of something special.

MAKING SJV PROUD

It’s great to see kids coming together and making big things happen. It’s great for kids to feel what its like to be part of something that an ENTIRE school can be proud of…the SJV Volleyball team is made up of some special kids. They are bringing people together and more importantly making  SJV FEEL LIKE ONE BIG FAMILY…just like in the good ole days, when kids played all the sports for all the right reasons…they like each other!…GOOD LUCK IN THE STATES LADIES…I’M ROOTING FOR YOU!
