ALL SMILES IN THE FALL LEAGUE

I had a chance to take in a few games at the Hoop Group High School fall league last night. No question it was fun night for a lot of reasons. Interestingly, many teams showed up with full rosters. This is rare in fall leagues as players in many cases have a lot on their plate this time of year; some play two sports and others are swamped with homework. My favorite part is seeing all the faces you haven’t seen in a while.

MAYBREY SPENT THE SUMMER WITH USA BASKETBALL

There were some interesting things that took place last night. Marina Mabrey, looks like she is in the best shape of her life. Mabrey just spent the summer with Team USA and said it was “GREAT”. But she was not the most impressive Mabrey last night. Little sister Dara showed she is ready for prime time. She ran the Manasquan team and was the vocal leader. Pretty impressive when you consider she is just a baby. Addie Masonious and Stella Clark at times put on a show, with some magical plays in transition, Manasquan is in good shape for years to come.

GRACE STANT AND TORI WAGNER LOOKED READY FOR THE SEASON

The Rumson team is not only tall, long and athletic, but physically looked to be lightyears ahead of everyone in the gym. Grace Stant Victoria Lesko and Sam Sabino are all athletic as heck. Hannah Scanlon is a coaches dream, kid has a chance to be special.. RFH right now has few weaknesses, Sid Sabino just does not miss open 3’s and Nicole Morris is special. One story for RFH last night was Tori Hyduke, who is going to be a major player in the Shore for years. But the player who stole the show was no other the Megan Volker. She was sensational last night. The 5’9” guard, passed, scored and defended. George Sourlis is a lucky man!

NOELLE FROST WAS MAYBE THE SURPRISE OF THE NIGHT

One of the most exciting things of the evening was watching Colts Neck guard Noelle Frost. Here is a kid who is soooo under the radar and will be attending Stockton State next year. When you don’t play for one of the top teams it’s easy to get missed. But I believe this kid has All-Shore type talent. It’s going to be interesting watching her this year; I think she may surprise a few people. Katie Healy has elected not to play in the fall league, so we won’t get a chance to see the Seton Hall bound guard and Frost together until the season. But what a nice backcourt it should make. By the way, Colts Neck has some very good young talent.

Freehold Township’s Tori Wagner looked like the real deal last night. Freehold was down by one to Manasquan after the first half and ran out of gas. The Freehold team is battling injuries right now; so they were missing 3 starters. But Miss Wagner at times was dominant, and she showed she can carry a team. It was great to get a look at Sam “Big Shot” Famulare, who looked like she ready to have a big year. Famulare is a kid schools would be wise to spend a lot time watching. She has great potential and I believe will be a double figure scorer at the next level.

MT ST MARY’S BOUND KATELYN KUSTER OPENED UP THE SCORING WITH A DEEP THREE

I peeked in on RBC and Central and no surprise Katelynn Kuster started the day out with a deep three…lol. Loyola bound Alex Barazotti is in great shape and no question will be an All-Shore player this year. But with what I saw Josie Larkins, Tia Montagne, Maureen Coakley and Catlin Carroll are 4 veterans that Coach Montano and the Yankees will be able to count on all year. Freshman Katie Rice is out with a sprained ankle but should be back next week.

Saw a tiny bit of Neptune last night all have to say was there was Bacon sizzling…lol

Erica Junquet who is going to Trinity College is a bad woman folks…What a steal for Trinity!

I will try and tweet out scores and updates at games I stick around and watch. Bryan Webber has done a great job in putting the league together. The players on most teams are sharing time and more importantly you see a lot of smiling faces in the gym….I LIKE THAT THE MOST.

Tuesdays partial results…

RFH defeated Colts Neck
Manasquan defeated Freehold
RBC defeated Central
Neptune defeated Marlboro
ALLENTOWN over Monroe
Neptune over Marlboro/Jackson
SJV over Mon Don
