NBA Draft Lottery Prediction: Sacramento Kings

Sacramento Kings – #5 & #10 Pick 2017 NBA Draft

The Picks: De’Aron Fox – Kentucky & Lauri Markkanen – Arizona

Other Possible Options: Jayson Tatum – Duke, Dennis Smith – NC State

The Sacramento Kings find themselves with two Top 10 picks in this year’s draft thanks to the Demarcus Cousins trade mid-season. The 2017 NBA Draft should be relatively easy for the Kings, who have a lot of holes to fill on their roster. Their game plan for Thursday? Draft the best player available. There’s a possibility that Jayson Tatum falls to 5 instead of Fox, but I think he gets scooped up before that. That leaves Kentucky’s De’Aron Fox to man the point for Sacramento. In a point guard heavy draft, De’Aron Fox is a quick, crafty point guard who will have no trouble getting players like Buddy Hield open looks. John Calipari said he believes Fox could be the next John Wall, and I can’t say I disagree. He embarrassed Lonzo Ball (who we have going 2) when they went head to head this season. No matter what, the Kings are getting a good player at 5. If it’s Fox, they’ll be getting a great one.

With the tenth pick, the Kings should do more of the same, wait to see who falls to them. Depending on who falls to them at five, this pick could change. Assuming the pick is Fox at five however, Lauri Markkanen could be a steal at ten. Markkanen is a fantastic shooter when he’s hot and was an efficient scorer in his one season at Arizona. Pair him with a point guard like Fox and alongside Willie Cauley-Stein, and he could thrive in Sacramento. If the Kings do land someone like Tatum instead of Fox, they could look to fill their point guard need here. In that case NC State’s Dennis Smith could be an option. But if the Kings are able to walk away with De’Aron Fox and Lauri Markkanen, they had themselves a heck of a draft.
