Tip Off Showcase Is Hoop Group Finale for Kyle Anderson

For Kyle Anderson of St. Anthony, his journey with Hoop Group has spanned 10 years and 32 individual events.

Back in 2001, he was much shorter, didn’t have college coaches poring over his ability (not just yet), and was still years removed from being under the tutelage of legendary coach Bob Hurley at St. Anthony.

“Just getting better overall, that’s the best thing,” said Anderson after his team’s 55-33 win over Trenton Catholic on Sunday night. “Putting in hours of Hoop Group camps and working hard in the hot summer sun, it’s all paying off.”

Anderson had 14 points and eight rebounds in the win.

He has signed to play for Ben Howland and UCLA next season, having chosen the Bruins over Florida, St. John’s, Seton Hall, and Georgetown.

Anderson is a rare blend of size and ballhandling skills, which has ranked him as a consensus top five recruit in the country.

He does as much in the way of personal skill as he does at making his teammates better, with the ability to draw in the defense and seeing over the defense to find open shooters.

UCLA has signed forward Jordan Adams of Oak Hill Academy (Va.) and continues to be in pursuit of Shabazz Muhammad, the number one player in the country out of Bishop Gorman (Nv.).

Next year, in the lights of Hollywood, Anderson will put on Bruin gold and baby blue, having come a long way from Hoop Group Skills camp in the Poconos a decade ago.
