The Hoop Group Skills Invitational Camp has been underway for three days and Coach Bob Hurley has the campers off and running.

Tyrell St. John and Walker “Dubs” Wilson, both fourteen years old, have been coming to Hoop Group camps for 4 years and speak highly of their experience here in the Poconos.
St. John, a member of the Stanford Peace AAU team, said that, at the Hoop Group camps, he’s learned skills that he can carry with him as his basketball career progresses.

“[Camps] show you a lot of stuff you have to work on and it gets you good exposure,” said St. John. “Working with Coach Bob Hurley is a good experience because you can learn a lot from a coach as big of a legend as him.”

Wilson also had good things to say about his time at camp so far.

“It’s fun because you get good experience and you gain the knowledge of basketball out of it,” he said. “The experience that I had from it, from the other players I’ve met, the coaches and all the drills we ran, I can take them home with me.”

Wilson all talked about Bob Hurley and the lasting impression the legendary Coach has made on him:

“He teaches you the history of basketball and the real basics without the fancy stuff, which is something that is more valuable to my game.”
Whether it’s dribbling the ball 20,000 times or taking 50 free throws to see how many you can make, the players here at the Bob Hurley Hoop Group Skills Camp are learning not only valuable basketball lessons, but life lessons as well.
