Blair Guard Play Proves to Be Difference Against Bloomfield

West Orange, NJ– After a back-and-forth first half, Blair rode a dominating third quarter to a victory over Bloomfield in the second game of the Tip-Off Hoop Group Showcase at West Orange High School.

The Buccaneers were led by guards Seth Lubreski and Mike Silverthorn who each scored 16 points in the win. In the loss the Bengals were led by Isaiah Dockett and his game-high 18 points. Dockett and Lubreski both received player of the game awards.

Silverthorn, who hit four 3-pointers, all in the first half, helped Blair stay in front until the start of that third quarter run. “It was important for us to stay in the game,” Silverthorn said, “We have been playing well lately (The Bucs have now won four in a row) and hopefully it continues.”

Holding a 21-19 lead at the start of the third, the Bucs 19-4 run in the quarter effectively ended the game. For the Bengals nothing went right during those eight minutes, even having an apparent Jordan Arthur basket negated by a goaltending call.

Bloomfield started the fourth with a 5-0 spurt but after Blair coach Joe Mantegna called a timeout, the game reverted into the back-and-forth affair from the first half and the Bucs, who were appearing in the showcase for the first time, cruised to the finish. The Bengals fell to 0-2 all-time in the Tip-Off Hoop Group Showcase.
