Cairo Brown Buzzer Beater 3 Pointer Lifts Linden Past Don Bosco at Tip-Off Hoop Group Showcase

West Orange, NJ – Cairo Brown’s 3-pointer as time expired delivered a 61-60 victory for the Linden Tigers over the Don Bosco Ironmen in the third game of the Tip-Off Hoop Group Showcase at West Orange High School.

Brown, who finished the night with 13 points and was named MVP, had only one word to describe his feelings immediately after the hitting the game winner, “Wow.”

“They (my teammates) let the ball be in my hands,” the 5’10” senior guard said, “I’m glad it went down and I can’t describe the feeling.”

Brown’s opportunity came moments after teammate Quadri Moore, who scored a team-high 16 points, won a scramble on the floor following a missed free throw by Don Bosco’s Paul Jorgensen that would have given the Ironmen a three point lead. Instead the score remained 60-58 Don Bosco and with the possession arrow pointing toward Linden Moore’s scrum on the floor was just as crucial as Brown’s shot.

“Wins like this build confidence,” Brown said. “If it wasn’t me who had the ball at the end I would have felt just as comfortable with any of my teammates.”

Brown’s coach Phil Colicchio seemed pretty happy that the ball ended up in his hands. “Two nights in a row,” Colicchio said referring to Brown, who’s buzzer-beating shot forced overtime in Linden’s 75-63 win over Elizabeth on Friday, “He practices so much and I tell him you may not always make the shot but you have to be willing to take the shot.”

Before Brown stole the spotlight, it appeared the star of the night was going to be Don Bosco’s Tom Sweeney. The 6’6” junior scored all 16 of his team-leading points in the second half to earn MVP honors for the Ironmen.
