Stewart Leads Hudson Catholic to Victory over St. Peter’s Prep

WEST ORANGE, NJ– Four Hudson Catholic players scored in double figures as the Hawks crushed St. Peter’s Prep 64-46 in the second game of the day at the Tip-Off Hoop Group Showcase.

Leading the way for the Hawks (2-0) was senior Kavon Stewart who scored 17 points and was named team MVP. Trevis Wyche scored a game-high 22 to lead St. Peter’s (1-1).

In a game that was very physical and testy at times between the Jersey City rivals, Hudson took control of the game, and built a 25-10 halftime lead, with a 12-2 run during the second quarter.

Highlighting the Hawks second-quarter explosion was Stewart, who committed to Robert Morris a month ago. After draining a 3-pointer to put the Hawks up 20-10, Stewart brought the house down, and effectively swung the game in Hudson’s favor, with a thunderous dunk which put the Hawks ahead 23-10.

“Adam (Traore) set the screen and my eyes lit up as I got to the basket,” Stewart said. “I think that (dunk) was the momentum changer.”

Another key to victory for the Hawks was the tenacious defensive play which seemed to throw the Marauders off their game.

“I think we did a really good job of neutralizing them all game,” said Hudson Catholic head coach Nick Marinello.
