Neumann Goretti Walks Away With Victory at Reading Hoop Group Showcase

Reading, PA – Neumann-Goretti (PA) topped Reading (PA) 64-41 in the second game of the Reading Hoop Group Tip-Off Showcase at Albright College behind a 20-point effort from game MVP John Davis.

“It feels good to win (the award and the game),” said Davis, a 6’5” senior forward who has committed to Towson University, “hopefully we can have another successful season and win Catholic League and City championships.” This was the third straight time Davis has won the MVP at the Reading Hoop Group Showcase.

The game was decided late in the second quarter when, following a free throw by Reading’s Baba Waples which cut Neumann-Goretti’s lead to 19-16, the Saints ended the half on a 13-2 run. They picked up where they left off in the second half as they outscored the Red Knights 18-6 in the third quarter.

“It wasn’t as easy as it looked,” Saints head coach Carl Arrigalle said. “They (Reading) are a very competitive team. For us, as a team we still need to learn to share the ball better and avoid the lapses we sometimes had tonight.”
