Plainfield Stifles West Orange in Tip-Off Hoop Group Showcase

WEST ORANGE, NJ– Winning ugly is still winning. And that seems to be the one positive which the Plainfield Cardinals can take away from their 37-24 victory over West Orange in the first game of the day at the Tip-Off Hoop Group Showcase at West Orange High School.

Plainfield, which was playing its season opener, was led by senior Denzel Christian’s 13 points while West Orange, which fell to 0-2, was led by junior Isaiah Scott’s 11. Both were named team MVP’s of the game.

After a very defensive oriented opening 15 minutes the teams were tied at 12 when Plainfield junior Jachai Simmons sank a floater to put the Cardinal in front 14-12 at the half. They never trailed from that point.

“It was a sloppy game (for us) on both sides of the floor,” said Plainfield head coach Jeff Lubreski. “With our young guys we are trying to stress defense before offense so maybe that was the positive we can take out of here.”
