Hoop Group Tip Off Showcase Top Performers

We had a great weekend of basketball at West Orange High School for the Hoop Group Tip Off Showcase, as some of the best teams in New Jersey came to play. With 20 teams playing in the Showcase, many players stood out and had great games, but only 5 can make our All-Tournament Team. Here are the Top 5 Performers from the Hoop Group Tip Off Showcase!

Isaiah Scott | West Orange | 5-11 | 2014
Isaiah Scott

In one of our many exciting battles of the weekend, the locals of West Orange defeated our locals in CBA with a thrilling 1 point victory. West Orange played a very solid all-around game, but would not have been able to beat CBA without Isaiah Scott. Scott’s ability to blow by the defense set up his team for easy buckets all game, but it was his defense down the stretch that eventually sent CBA home with a loss. His relentless on-ball defense forced a few last minute turnovers that iced the game for the Mountaineers.

Tyus Battle | Gil St. Bernard’s | 6-4 | 2016
Tyus Battle

Battle came into this game as one of the Top Sophomores in the country, and did nothing to change anyone’s mind about that. Gil St. Bernard’s had a relatively easy win over the Hun school thanks to a stellar second half where Battle was making plays on both offense and defense. Battle is a long 6-4 and has the ball-handling to show that he can play at the top level right now! Battle has already received offers from some of the best schools in the country, including Villanova, UConn and Indiana.

Quadri Moore | Linden | 6-8 | 2015
Quadri Moore

Quadri Moore and Linden got out to a slow start, but once they got comfortable, Newark Tech didn’t stand a chance and Linden won this one easily. While Otis Livingston was making plenty of big plays for the Tigers, it was Moore who was unstoppable down low and in this game got his 1,000th career point. The 6-8 Junior has already committed to Cincinnati.

Karl Towns Jr. | St. Joseph’s Metuchen | 7-0 | 2014
Karl Townes

No surprise here, as Karl Townes will likely be a part of many All-Tournament teams this season. The true 7-footer was a beast down low, scoring 17 points in a tight win over Shore Regional. That 17 could have easily been higher, but 3 offensive fouls limited Townes in the Sunday night matchup. He couldn’t even move in the post without knocking people over, which is why he is Kentucky-bound. Even Coach Cal was in attendance for this game…

Dan Pillari | Shore Regional | 6-0 | 2014
Dan Pillari

The Show Stealer! Coming in as huge underdogs, Shore Regional surprised everyone with a great performance against the #1 team in the State, which included the #1 player in the state in Karl Townes and St. Joseph’s Metuchen. Shore was able to grab a 7 point lead after the first quarter thanks to 5 3-pointers in the opening frame. Pillari was an animal in this game, totaling 40 points on 9, yes, 9 3 pointers, both of which are Tip Off records. Shore couldn’t hold onto the lead and would eventually lose to the Falcons, but they were the team to watch this weekend and are certainly players in the Shore Conference this season.
