Live Blog: West Virginia Jam Fest Day Two (7/19)

Hoop Group’s West Virginia Jam Fest is an intense two-day tournament, featuring 72 of the nation’s best AAU teams.

Hoop Group will be providing daily online coverage of this Jam Fest in the form of “live blogs,” recognizing outstanding achievements at camp, and keeping you informed of all the latest Hoop Group Elite happenings.

In these live blogs, Hoop Group staff will note tournament standouts, spectacular plays, college coaches in attendance, and more. 6:25 PM – Devin Wilson (Montour HS, PA/Class of 2013) nailed a 27-footer as time expired to give Pittsburgh Team Adidas (PA) a 38-35 overtime victory over Drill 4 Skill (PA) in the championship game of the 17U bracket.

Swish Hoops (PA) topped Team Insane (PA) 66-60 to win the 16U title. Drew Allen (New Castle HS, PA/Class of 2014) scored a game-high 22 points to lead Swish.

5:16 PM – DBHoops (OH) topped Long Island Lightning 55-53 to cop the Hoop Group West Virginia Jam Fest 15U Tournament Championship this afternoon at University High School in Morgantown, WV. Tanner Houska (Medina Highland HS, OH/Class of 2014) and Brogan Scott (Medina Highland HS, OH/Class of 2014) each scored 14 points in the victory. —@pfebbraro

3:40 PM – We’re almost there folks! Had two unbelievable Semi-Final games in the 17U bracket. Team Adidas (PA) beat Bombers Basketball Club (KY), 59-57. Jacob Schulte (Newport Central Catholic/Cold Spring, KY) proved to be an enforcer for the Bombers with 15 points, mostly from the block, but clutch free throws won it for Adidas. On the other side of the 17U Gold Bracket, Drill 4 Skill Wildcats defeated TNBA East, final score 61-58. Rising Senior Brandon Domenick (New Castle HS/New Castle, PA) ran the show for the Wildcats, finding his teammates open at will and being a threat from the perimeter himself. On to the Championships, tip off 4:50 OM at University High School – Court 1!

2:03 PM – Look out USA, Canada can ball too. Etobicoke Thunder Elite’s 6-foot-4 rising senior Matthew Taylor (Chinguacousy SS/Brampton, Ontario) just posterized a player with a LeBron-esque 1-handed dunk from above the key! 1:24 PM – Kristian Morgan (Gallatin County HS, KY/Class of 2013) sank two key free throws with just over 10 seconds left to secure a 62-59 win in a 17U Bracket quarterfinal game for the Bombers Basketball Club (KY).

“I’m thinking I can’t miss these. Have to make them,” said Morgan, who finished with 11 points.

The Bombers, led by Nicholas Seibert’s (Newport Central Catholic, KY/Class of 2013) 19 points, will face Pittsburgh Team Adidas (PA) in the 17U semifinals later today.

“There’s a lot of good competition here,” said Morgan. “I think we’ll be ready. We have come to far here.” —@pfebbraro

12:35 PM – With three coaches from Division II Fairmont State University (WV) looking on, 6-foot-4 Armoni Towns (Northland HS, OH/Class of 2013) scored a game-high 25 points to lead the Ohio Hoopsters (OH) over Nova Village (OH) 65-61 in the 17U Silver Bracket.

“He’s a smart player, a hustler,” said Hoopsters coach Jason Benton. “He’s one of our better defensive players but today he ran his lanes well and put himself in the right place at the right time.”

Nova Village was led by Joey Schmitz’s (Bloom Carroll HS, OH/Class of 2014) 21 points. —@pfebbraro

12:03 PM – The 17U game between Team Vision (NC) and DG Warriors (OH) provided possibly the best one-on-one match up of the tournament. Pinning 6-foot-6 freak athlete Timothy Williams (2013/Asheville HS, NC) vs. 6’6 big man Chris Scott (2014/Bedford HS, OH). Williams’s Team Vision got the better of the two teams with a tough 60-57 win. Williams pleased the crowd with an arsenal of dunks combining for 16 points. DG Warriors’ Scott continued his consistent tournament play down low by scoring 16 points and grabbing 7 rebounds. – @Craigs_Lists

10:55 AM – Darryl Saunders’ 22 points helped the CBSA Hoyas (MD) defeat TNBA West (OH) 53-47. The win advances CBSA to the 17U bracket quarterfinals. Eric Black (Class of 2014) led TNBA West with 15 points. —@pfebbraro

9:58 AM – Kristian Morgan (Gallatin County HS, KY/Class of 2013) scored a team-high 20 points as Bombers Basketball Club (KY) defeated DB Hoops Mahoney (OH) 64-61 in the 17U bracket. Nicholas Seibert (Newport Central Catholic, KY/ Class of 2013), who finished with 12 points, hit a layup with two minutes left to put the Bombers up 62-61. Hollis Alexander led DB Hoops Mahoney with 20 points. —@pfebbraro
