Team Philly forward Vinny D’Alessandro has been impressive on the low block.

4:46 PM — Court 1 has played host to two great 17U games in a row. Following the New Heights-Team Loaded NC battle (see below), Bmore’s Finest and Castle Knights went back and forth throughout, with Castle coming out on top, 61-60. An offensive foul call on Bmore’s Finest with seven seconds remaining gave Castle two free throws; one was all they needed.

Sekou Sangare (2015) hit one of two shots from the line and a buzzer-beating three-point attempt from Bmore’s Finest guard John Crosby (2014) fell short, giving Castle Knights another good win and one of the weekend’s more notable upsets to this point. Sangare finished with 17 points in the win.

4:03PM – New Heights (NY) has advanced to the 17U Sweet 16 thanks to a 77-73 win over Team Loaded (NC). They will face SC Raptors Elite at 8:30 p.m.

1:46PM – VA Elite and Team Winston went toe-to-toe in a 16U Second Round matchup earlier today that may have been the highlight of the morning here at the Boo Williams Sportsplex.

In the end, VA Elite held on for an 82-75 overtime victory after erasing a seven-point halftime deficit and then blowing a four-point lead in the final minute of regulation.

Starring for VA Elite was 6-8 forward Grant Golden (2016) who finished with a game-high 19 points, including four in overtime. Golden, had missed an opportunity to win the game in regulation when he missed two free throws with .3 seconds on the clock.

Team Winston was led by 5-10 guard Michal Seals (2016) whose 16 points were a team-high. Seals netted 12 of those points in the first half. All four of Seals’ points in the second half came from the free throw line with under a minute to play. The first two knotted the score at 70, the second two briefly put Team Winston ahead 72-70.

Seals then made what was, despite the outcome, the defensive play of the game. As VA Elite frantically gained possession in the closing seconds, they broke out down court and, if not for Seals’ hustle getting back on defense, the game may have ended with a layup. Instead Seals was able to knock the ball out bounds with .8 seconds remaining.

VA Elite will now face Sports U in the Sweet 16 at 4:50 p.m. —@pfebbraro

12:59PMGrayson Midulla (2015), eight points, and Devin Morgan (2015), six points, combined to lead Team Richmond to a 50-38 victory over Force One. Morgan, a fiery competitor who shoots and handles the ball well, has offers from Radford, Longwood and Northern Arizona, while Midulla, who has seen interest from American and Liberty can now add Dartmouth to that list. —@pfebbraro

12:45 PM – Team Loaded 804 17U (Richmond) is wearing jerseys with “Carolina” across the front but is repping the RVA well thus far here at Boo Williams. After winning a nail-biter over HC Dream Team last night, Loaded 804 is off to a hot start today, jumping out to an early 14-2 lead over Team Takeover White early in the first half. Chief Amoah (2015) and Jason Jolly (2015) may be somewhat undersized in the backcourt, but have combined to form a tough duo.
