Expressions Elite (Mass.) wins 17U championship in thrilling fashion

DSC08893The weekend was rightfully capped off with a thrilling 17U championship game between Brookwood Bounce Elite (Can.) and Expressions Elite (Mass.).

Brookwood Bounce Elite jumped out to an early 11-2 lead, but Expressions Elite came right back with a 26-10 run of their own. Going into halftime, Expressions Elite held onto a 28-24 lead.

From there, the game remained close up until the final play of the game. Abdul-Malik Abu, who had just arrived Saturday night, delivered the game winning dunk with just 3.1 seconds left on the clock. He was fouled as well, and the added free throw made the score 54-51. Brookwood Bounce Elite was unable to come up with a miracle in the final seconds.

“It feels great. (It was a) good pass by Jared [Terrell], that made the whole play. It was all up to him, that’s my teammate, I love him. Good play.”

Brookwood Bounce Elite was led by the play of 2014 guard Tevon Walker. Walker finished with 18 points.

Abu had 12 points for Expressions Elite, none bigger than his final basket. After the game Abu – who is currently fasting for Ramadan – was ready for some much deserved rest.

“I’m gonna go home and sleep and when that sun goes down I’ma eat something, probably watch a little Fresh Prince, play some 2k, and that’s it.” –@Josh_Stirn
