Jam Fest Spotlight: Jahlil White

Class of 2020 small forward Jahlil White from the NJ Shoreshots has taken off so far this AAU season. With White’s talent and potential he should see a lot more attention come his way in the July live period. The Wildwood Catholic (N.J.) product spoke to Hoop Group Insider on his play this season and more.

Q: How has your adjustment been to your new team in the NJ Shoreshots?

A: “I love playing with these kids, they are so unselfish and make the extra every time,” said White. “We try to defend really well and we play good as a group.”

Q: What does Coach Pooley expect from you every game?

A: “He tells me to bring defensive energy, try to take over the game if I can and just help out my teammates to get them better,” he said.

Q: What are some of the things that you are trying to prove when you’re out there?

"I’m trying to prove that I am better than some of the kids that are listed higher than me. I just want to push myself and see what I am capable of.”

Q: What are some of the parts of your game you would consider your strengths and what are some of the things you would improve on?

A: “Something I want to improve on is getting my jump shot better and I think my strength is getting to the basket.”

Q: What are some short term and long term goals you have set for yourself?

A: “I want to end up playing on the division one level and I want to win some AAU tournaments with my team.”

Q: You and T.J. Berger have developed a lot of chemistry. What is it like playing with someone that talented?

A: “T.J. is so good and I love the way he shoots the ball. I like playing with him because it’s so easy.”

Q: When you finish high school basketball, where do you want to be at with your game?

A: “I want to develop into a strong point guard, develop my shot and keep it up on defense.”
